Years back I discovered Nokia suite and it did exactly what I wanted to do in a very simple straightforward manner. It enabled me to type a message on my desktop and send the message through my phone. I didn't have to buy anything else or try and insert something in outlook or bring up a browser etc etc It just works!! I still have a Nokia sitting beside my computer connected up and Nokia suite open on my desktop. It sits beside my Samsung note and my ipad neither of which i have been able to find software that does the same job as Nokia suite. Am i doomed to have this duplication forever? or does anyone know of android or ios software that does this ?

Airdroid (fully featured and getting better).
DeskSMS (best (i.e. most reliable, but not pretty) for just SMS alone).

Both for Android. I'm sure there are more.

Nokia PC Suite was an unreliable dog back in the day, then all of a sudden it got very reliable. It was a strong selling point for Nokia handsets, as the competition couldn't hold a candle to it.

Android has dozens if not hundreds of similar applications. Some multi-function, like Airdroid, and some single-function like DeskSMS.

e.g.

I use Airdroid when I'm stuck at my laptop for a long time, saves picking up phone to do stuff.
I used DropBox for moving photos to my laptop.
I use Doubletwist to move audio files.

Could probably do it all with Airdroid.

Yes, similar available for iPhone: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/jproductivity-llc/id352226779?mt=8/http://www.myphonedesktop.com.

DeskSMS is also available for iPhone but requires jailbreak.

Airdroid uses WiFi to the phone, it doesn't need an internet connection to work.
