I'm wanting to buy one or a couple of microsd cards by this weekend and am a bit overwhelmed with trying to balance price quality and availability.

Looking for class 10, 16gb

I want to spend as little as possible, but obviously want to avoid unreliable cards or even cards with a fake capacity. Where do those in the know buy their memory cards from?

I'm based in Wellington.

If you want it by the weekend I am guessing you are going to need a physical store rather than mail order.

Jaycar on Taranaki Street might be worth a look.

Interestingly im buying something from jaycar that needs the card. They sell the card I want for 36 and jb hifi has the same for 27, but then it is much cheaper still on trademe.

Id like to avoid the risks of buying on trademr so JB will be my plan B if nothing better comes out.

Fair call, Noel Leemings sells the same capacity cards for only a few dollars less than Jaycar.

I've had a PBtech 32gb $29 card for last year or so and no issues. Most things are backed up anyway so not too much of an issue if it goes bad

Just be careful if using a Sandisk class 10 card in Samsung phones. My nearly new Sandisk 64gb class 10 card was corrupted by my Note 2 on Monday, research showed this was a common problem with Sandisk cards and certain Samsung phones... something about issues communicating with the controller on the card. Trascend are good cards. Am on the hunt for a new card myself so was a well time topic, cheers.

I've used flashcards.co.nz a few times in the past, always cheap and reliable. Not sure if they're still in business?

Thanks for that link it looks like a good deal. I gave in though and bought a transcend 16gb class ten card from JB Hifi for $27. They are across the road from work and I'm a sucker for instant gratification.

Pity you didn't go into JB last night. Their Cost+ GST sale would have got you a nice deal on a mSD card.

I have used them too in the past as they used to sell stuff a lot cheaper than other places. But these days other retailers seem to be selling them just as cheap.

Dick Smith has 25% off Sandisk cards at the moment, it still might not be the cheapest but at least you know it will be legit
