Hi All,

I have recieved several 090 calls to my cellphone recently.

I haven't answered them as I can recall something about them being a scam that if you answered them a call was charge to you phone.

Any truth in this?

That's the case according to the DIA.

Someone from a mobile carrier might be able to shed some light on how this works exactly in terms of being collect billed without authorisation.

No they would not be charged if you answered them only unless you are roaming (Normal roaming costs)

Thought it was odd.

This scam probably works in some countries where mobiles work with collect billing (eg. the US of A) if you are in cahoots with the telco who is initiating the calls.

With MPP over there it's possible to answer your mobile and pay some fairly hefty fees from some US area codes - likewise there are some US area codes that are fairly hefty if you call them.

It's one of the reasons CPP is so much better!

I have just received a random call from  0067211249. When I answered it there was a someone speaking Chinese on the line.

Anything to do with the previous 090 calls or co-incidence?

Well unless it's spoofed (or incorrectly formatted)...

Interesting, I had a call from "090" earlier today and it was a telemarketer from Vodafone offering me some upgrades to my mobile plan. I asked on the VF Community and told its legit.

Cloud spending continues to surge globally, but most organisations haven’t made the changes necessary to maximise the value and cost-efficiency benefits of their cloud investments. Download the whitepaper From Overspend to Advantage now.

Whats also interesting is that this is a warning on http://www.dia.govt.nz/diawebsite.nsf/wpg_URL/Services-Anti-Spam-TXT-scams  web site re the 090 calls.

Maybe somebody should tell Vodafone why people arn't answering the calls for upgrades.
