Hi,

I am looking for a GSM fax solution. Does anyone know how well something like this would work with vodaphone NZ?
http://www.lascom.co.nz/products/rf_equipment/gsm_fax.htm

I only need it for receiving fax, sent from mostly NZ landlines I guess.

Other option I guess would to get a GSM modem and run some fax software on PC, is that a better idea?

Any suggestions would be great.

I've seen similair units running years ago and they work fine. Vodafone allocate you an 021 fax number and you're away..

Yes they work well and you will require the Data/Fax overlay not just fax (bearer serveice T62)

I have worked alot with them and know the setup very well

Thanks for the replies.
How much in addition to standard plan will that cost?
I was hoping I could just use a pre-pay sim because I only need to receive fax so don't need a contract... this possible?

Fax or Data/fax can not be added to prepay connections at this time.

It can be added to on account connections at no cost.

Thanks.
I did a bit more reading online and found some GSM terminals that you seem to be able to connect a standard phone to (or more if you get a model that takes multiple sims I think) to use like a landline. Maybe I could get one of them and connect my existing fax machine to it...? (with the data enabled sim)

Most GSM->POTS phone adapters only support voice, not G3 fax so this will not work. The GSM G3 Fax and CSD service uses a CSD data bearer which is different to the normal voice circuit.

There are some GSM Phone/Fax adapters that give you a RJ12 plug for both phone and fax and these will work fine. If you contact Hitech Supplies they sell the 2N EasyGate which does what you are after.

I think that is the solution I like best. It would be cool if the answering machine built into the fax works as well... We'll talk about it at work tomorrow and make a decision :)
