Hey gang, have you all seen/heard of Sharp GX-15? just saw it on paper today, offering through DSE.

Look a lot like SE610/630. quite nice looking though...

Internet is my backyard...

Looks like good value. Unlike the GX10 and GX20, it has bluetooth and, if my memory serves me correctly, the camera supports VGA resolution.

Hopefully this will put some price pressure on similar Sony Ericsson models.

I am not that excited about bluetooth since using the gx-30 which has 'bluetooth capability' but its limited to headsets and car kits, not file transfer vastly reducing the appeal of a 1 megapixel camera

What about Internet access via laptop/PDA? If this functionality were restricted then it would completely defeat the purpose of having bluetooth, for me personally.

from memory the gx30 came with a pc suite that allowed gprs modem via infrared/usb cable

I couldnt connect pc with gx30 via bluetooth because it was locked out with restrictions to just car kits and headsets

It is a great phone, the best camera so far I seen under $ 500.00 I've got one! Woo hoo, no email client though it's a bummer, my wife's got a SE Z600 nice phone with utilities, but the quality of picture rather sad.

I own a gx 15, and yes, you can use bluetooth to transfer files, and the manual tells how to connect to inet using bluetooth (never tryied it).

the problem I found is while trying to 'tooth' (http://toothing.blogspot.com/), because it seems that you need to link with other bluetooth devices in order to send them contacts.

I've just bought a GX15 (GX-15) and it doesn't seem to be able to connect to the internet via bluetooth with my iPaq 2210. I can transfer pics (and probably files) across, but nothing in the manual suggests that it is data-capable via bluetooth. No help on the Sharp-moble.com website either and Vodafone 'business solutions team' go "....er , ..... um..... oh well........ dunno really.... should be possible but not quite sure....."
Does anybody know about this one? Sure seems like a waste of a good possibility if the phone is not built for such a seemingly simple task. Ideas?

Not possible, AFAIK. It's only for file transfers and headset.

Cheers. I suspected that might be the case. Good thing I've got another phone that will do the trick (Nokia 6820)!
Nice camera, though, so its not a complete waste......... I might put it under the christmas tree........

well,

don't know for sure, but the manual does say it is able to connect a laptop to inet by bluetooth with gx15.
I called this morning to vodafone asking for gprs cid number and they told me it is possible with that sharp.

but never tried.

Thanks Hari. I'll check Vodafone again on Monday.... but www.sharp-mobile.com only mentions drivers that can be downloaded onto your desktop/laptop, so I wonder if internet connection is only possible via Windows XP or 98 (ie laptop) but not possible via Pocket PC?

IF the GX-15 does support DUN, then it should work fine on a Pocket PC or Palm. You may find that on the Pocket PC you'll have to enter APN in addition to the CID. On the init string enter something like +CGDCONT="1",,"internet".
