I recently downloaded the google maps onto my nokia mobile and when I start it up, I keep getting the error:

"Network Unavailable
This programme requires a data connection. Please contact your carrier or visit www.google.co.uk/gmm/configure.html on your computer for more info.

(Error: parse version error 15464)"

When I went to the site it suggested, it eventually leads to the nokia software support site.. which isn't much use.

My internet connections work fine when I use the phone to browse websites etc but for some reason, I get the error with the google maps app.

So, has anyone else come across this issue and if so, it would be great if you could share how you went about solving it.

I am experiencing the same problem with my Nokia 6131

Have you got any other apps on your phone tha tuse the internet?? And not the browser?

I've used google maps mobile on a nokia 6121 and now a 6210 Navigator to great success. This is on the "VF NZ Internet" - as it's connection as it's called on my phone. Not the Gateway.

Yes, I have other apps using the internet apart from the browser that work fine.
I have tried both the VF NZ internet and gateway and they both work with all my apps except for google maps.
I have a friend who also has the same problem I'm having. Both our phones are nokias that were purchased overseas. Maybe this has something to do with it..

Interesting that you say that. Maybe we have something at hand. I bought my Nokia 6131 of the net and not from the service provider as they don't sell that model.

Maybe it has to do with some firmware the service provider loads the phones with before selling them wich is missing.

I have the same problem as well. Glad to hear it's not just me. I have a friend with the same model (6121) and his google maps works fine. Both of us bought our phones from Vodafone NZ stores 6 months apart. One difference between our phones is that I updated to the latest Nokia firmware as soon as I got the phone, while he has not done so. I wonder if this has made a difference?

You need have internet connection before you can use Google map. Do your operators include a data plan for you? You need GPRS or 3G activate on your SIM card before you can use these features.

All prepay and on account plans have data enabled by default here in NZ.

Sounds to be like the APN settings are incorrect.

You should have an Access Point called VFNZ Internet that uses an apn of www.vodafone.net.nz or Internet

Holy cow it works. I was using VFNZ Gateway, which seems to work fine for browsing, but not for Google Maps. When I switched to VFNZ Internet it worked. I'm sure I tried that very early in the saga and it didn't work. Oh well, I'm happy now.

Out of interest, what is the difference between the different connection options, e.g. VFNZ Internet and VFNZ Gateway?

VFNZ Gateway is the WAP access point
VFNZ internet is direct to the internet

Back to you guys

Mainly would like to ask RGO if you could find your friend's firmware version. Tried the solution of conncting via the internet and not the WAP and no joy. Therefore would like to try and load a working firmware on my 6131.

I am in desperate need for a solution as we are planning on starting to import and distribute GPS Locators and need to provide them with a free maps application for showing the GPS location.

Would highly appreciate... and regards

My friend's firmware would have been that already installed when he bought the phone, so he won't have the file. Anyway, my experience indicates that the problem is not caused by the latest firmware (in the 6121 at least). If you really want to test different firmware, I suggest you update to the latest firmware from the Nokia website.

Also, if you only need to test your GPS units, why not use Nokia maps. It's not as good as Google, but it's pretty good.

It is not my personal GPS which I need to test but rather a solution which will serve any type of phone and maker. We are looking to bring those GPS locators into the country and distribute them. Therefore needing a wall to wall solution and the Nokia maps is not the one we need.

Tried to update the firmware to the latest one to be informed that I already have the latest one.. (V 06.10)
