Got a non-colour nokia phone (?2-3 years old) and just on Friday it has stopped sending sms. Can't send sms, can't get account balance, etc. Receives sms fine still everything else is still fine. I assume the phone's stuffed - firmware corrupted or something - who knows! Anyone?

If assumption above correct will be looking at a new phone - came across

anyone knows anything good/bad about them?

Tempting as they are, plan A is to stay well clear of them, plan B is to stay very clear, and plan C is stay away from them! Unless someone can recommend them for any reason?

I had a pre pay that wouldnt send SMS. I tried the SIM card in several other phones, same problem. Vodafone never did manage to fix it so when the credit ran out I had to get a new number. So try your SIM in another phone and if possible another SIM card in your phone to determine where the fault is.

As for your old Nokia, please check the Sent folder under Messages, please make sure this is empty. As for my experience, some small Nokia's are limited to 25 messages on the Sent folder and it won't send any messages if full. And for those TV phones, I'd say stay away from them, they don't last long. And they don't look really good like the pictures, they are a little bit enhanced to make them look really really good. This is just my opinion, having worked with mobile phone repairs for 6 years or so. If you need another phone, go with the branded ones, Nokia, Sony Ericsson or Samsung. Again just my suggestion.

A factory reset is almost guaranteed to fix the problem. It's an issue I've seen on several Nokia's including my own S60.

Find out the model number of the device and check if you can update it through "nokia software updater"

As for those "TV phones" I'd stay clear if you want a reliable dependable mobile, They are OK if you want something to fiddle with though theay are really little more than a reference design with some varying software.

There is a DuslSIM version around too that does seem like an awesome idea however,

factory reset was the first thing i did, didn't work. no cable (dont think worth spending anything on this old phone) ... so i guess phone hunting this week!

yup tried sim in another phone and another sim on the phone - but guess what

clearing sent messages worked! thanks heaps
