850/2100 or 900/2100?

Right,

Ive got a bit of a question for you guys.

I'm thinking of trying to keep my options open.

I want to get a new phone;

No sure whether to get 850/2100 or 900/2100 (UMTS)

I live on the North Shore of Auckland.

3G coverage is less than pleasing with 2100 (iPhone 3G), but there is some of it round (Vodafone)

I want to buy a new phone, but am not sure which bandset to get.

I was thinknig of I got another 850/2100, then I could still use Vodafone or Telecom should I want to move at a later date.

Obviously 3G with Telecom will be better in this case though.

What would be your thoughts of this? Because from what I hear, 900Mhz is only good for those who are Rural, yes?

Just so I dont confuse anyone my underlying question is:

Should I buy a phone with 850/2100 or 900/2100.

Would 900 benefit me, not being in a rural location?

well, its not so much features im wanting to answer out of this thread..

im not sure whether to go with 850/2100 or 900/2100.

i think the only way to really solve my issue is to get two phones, one that does each.

That way, I can stop my whining and just have a number on both networks.

Which kind of works for me anyhow, because i want the HTC Touch Pro2

Well i'd hope that since telecom is 3G only at 850mhz, if you go with one of those you should have good coverage everywhere. At least wait till launch.

With one of what? the HTC Touch Pro2? They're 900/2100

i'm also hoping to get the touch pro 2, telstra do a special version of the touch hd at the moment which is 850/2100, im hoping they also do the touch pro 2 at 850/2100, then i can get one from aussie. ive emailed HTC about an 850/2100, but the reply from said no idea yet.

i also emailed expansys, to see if they will have an at & t version of the touch pro 2 but no idea also.

t-mobile in the USA is confirmed as picking up the touch pro 2 but theyre 900/2100.

Actually, just to be pedantic, it is 3G at 850MHz but there is also some infill at 2100MHz...

If you live adjacent to a rural area, you may get scatter from 900MHz cellsites, but otherwise, no, 900MHz will not be of any benefit to you.

If you have an 850/2100 phone you will have all the bases covered so far as the XT network is concerned.
