I have one of the early Vodafone mobile connect cards in my laptop which I use when travelling internationally and domestically.
Is there anything to be gained by me upgrading to the newer G3 cards? What are the benfits etc?

It depends on your usage. If you want to use the Vodafone 3G service when it's here then you'll need the new card.

If you use the card overseas, then you'll be able to connect to 3G networks (providing it's a Vodafone network or a roaming agreement is in place) right now. If you go to the UK for example you can already use their 3G network, even though we don't have this here yet.

I've seem them around, but haven't checked any stores (haven't been in one for years). I had the impression they're already available because Vodafone was keen on clients using these cards while overseas.

You can just ask at any Vodafone outlet, or if you have a Vodafone account manager contact this person directly.

To buy out right (no contract) about $900+ I have being using one for a while now. Just some tips for even using just the GPRS card make sure you have software version 4.02 and its always a good idea to run microsoft anti spyware removal tool and disable norton internet security (not norton antivvirus). Works a treat on my laptop I use to use the option card and then SE GC75 and now have the 3G card.3G/GPRS

How have you found the G3 card. Do you feel it is worth the extra cost? It is your main way of accessing email or do you only use it when travelling?

I have just added some more to my post sorry, I use it all the time and have used it in 3G mode (over seas) its like going from a morris minor to a nice Holden V8. Once I got my laptop set up right it made a big difference to the GPRS speed even but I mainly use it for basic Email and web surfing.

Did you buy your 3G card in NZ? I have not been able to track one down yet.
I downloaded software V4.02 and I could not set up a profile with my existing card. Perhaps as my card is an old one this version of software is not compatiable?

I did not do a firmware upgrade on the card so will try that over the weekend.

Vodafone NZ told me that the cards are not available here at the moment.
