hey there, i have been looking at a few websites that have imported phones..they are quite a bit cheaper than what eg vodafone sell and some that ive never even seen before!
My question is would you buy a parallel imported phone? Im after nothing flash just basic slider with good camera.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with buying a parallel imported phone. The only downside is you may face warranty issues. Ie. your phone may have to be sent overseas to get fixed.

Also note operators won't support your phone - if you have configuration problems you will have to ask around here or return to the seller and it to be fixed.

I only buy parallel imported phones and will never ever buy one from Vodafone or Telecom with their ridiculous markups.

For example last time I saw an N86 on Vodafone they were asking $1500, or $1350 if you locked into a 2 year contract. Same phone via parallel importer? $800.

Also, "generic" imported phones are likely to get firmware updates earlier than branded models.

Also worth noting that parallel importers have to honor the Consumers Gaurantees Act.

Yup - I have Parallel imports when buying and VFNZ ones when being given a phone in an upgrade or re-sign stuation.

I have NEVER had a major problem with a phone that was a direct result of it being a Parallel Import.
