Hi,

Can anyone point me in the right direction to find out the latest figures for the number of smart mobile device users in New Zealand.

I.e. the number of iPads, iPhones, Blackberrys and Android phones owned by New Zealanders.
and/or internet stats for their use by people in New Zealand?

I am trying to find out the number of users of each device in use in New Zealand to see the potential New Zealand market for creating an application on each platform.

Hi Simon. I doubt very much that NZ specific figures will be available in any single report. The number of handsets sold at any given moment is commercially sensitive info and thus would only be available from the handset manufacturers' own reports or from specialists such as Neilsen who have the data for sale.

But to tabulate the installed base would require the sum of every handset sold in this country that fits your criteria, a mammoth task. Which is why the companies who provide the data you seek cheat by using web activity to create their estimates. They would readily agree though that the figures are a poor measure of actual handsets - rather they provide a more meaningful comparison of operating system platforms at any moment.

You might try the published results from http://marketshare.hitslink.com/ in that vein, although I don't know for certain that they will have the necessary info in their free report catalogue.

If you manage to find a link, please report back as it's something that will be useful to me as well as others here.
