Heyya,

Due to lack of funds and experimenting with free hosting (thanks createfreehosting.com) It's fairly easy to setup a WAP Uploader (think Sprint and Rumkin)

More and more are popping up using Rumkins ported site which is easy to setup (albeit restricted by my current free hosted status) which is downloadable here , yet it would be nice to have a NZ one as Rumkin's etc are getting hammered and being international, near impossible to get into.

Required:

PHP with GD extensions enabled (4.3.x includes as standard, enabled by uncommenting extension=php_gd2.dll)
MySQL Db

Little project for someone with spare time which the benefits NZer's who wish to use it(including me

), its pretty well setup and easily customizable including easy-clean auto functions to keep your DB small and tidy.

USes include the post by phatbloke to loading pretty much free (5c worth) ringtones to Sanyos can be found here which I found really helpful.

Just remember that with Telecom charging over $50 per MB for WAP data that it may actually be cheaper to pay for a ringtone from Telecom that attempt do setup your own.

Telecom should really charge all WAP at data plan rates (i.e. casual $8 per meg, right down to 1GB @ $49)

Its insane that I can have 1GB EVDO data for $49 or the exact same data through WAP for over fifty one thousand dollars.....

I know im quick to jump on other people who arbitrarily say someone (usually Telecom) should drop prices, but really.... over $50,000 for 1GB of data over mobile is just ridiculous.

Whats that you say? No one uses one GB over wap? Well collectively im betting we use far more than that every month (week?) [talking about off-portal stuff here]. So they are in fact pulling that sort of revenue...

Id use WAP HEAPS if it was price the same as other mobile data offerings.

The way its done in phatblokes post (see above) you upload a fake Midi file less than a KB big(mine = 583bytes), Telecom charges you 5c per KB, so any truetone i want costs me 5c and thats it. You then overwrite the fake file in 7400 with any MP# file you wish, selecting your own quality. I've also made it work with Videos, through the fake 3GP file. (go go MasterCard priceless add on a mobile)

Hence why a NZ uploader would be great, not sure what other handsets support this method but im sure with a bit of fiddling it would work on a few other brands....

Works with 7400 and up, haven't tried it with 2300 as haven't been able to borrow one for 5mins.

But HECK yes, the WAP charges are rediculous. They'd make more if they extended the WAP function to cover the whole Xtra and Telecom site, only charging for the file downloads such as games, ringers and wallpapers instead of the crazy 5-7c per kb
