Hi, just received a Motorola Milestone. Its still in its shrink wrap, originally from a Telecom store.

A brief trawl round the web and on Trademe has people saying that there's only a single version of this handset, which is quad band. My take on that is that it should run equally happily on all of the networks then.

All of the phones I've had to date have either been for just one of the networks, or more lately, operate on frequencies much more suited to one of the networks than the others.

Before I crack the shrink wrap on this phone thought I'd just check here and see if anyone knew for sure that it will work just as well on any network or whether it should just be used on the Telecom network. Anyone using a Telecom Motorola Milestone on Vodafone or 2 Degrees?

I think it's quad-band GSM but 3g is triband and wont work on XT outside of the 2100mhz zones

Most problems are the result of previous solutions...

Funny that you mention that it won't work on XT outside of built up areas - that was what I was wondering about, but given the device was from a Telecom store I'd assumed that it would work in built up areas on Vodafone/2degrees but not work well elsewhere. So you're suggesting that even though the phone came from Telecom that it will not work well on the Telecom network outside of built up areas?

If it's from a Telecom store then it will be fine on XT but your 3G coverage will be limited on 2 Degrees/Vodafone.

Yeah there are 2 version of it, 1 has 3g 850mhz and the other doesn't

Sounds pretty much like what I expected then - will be fine everywhere on XT but will struggle on Vodafone/2degrees outside of the main metro areas.

Just to make clear: the Motorola Milestone as sold by Telecom will work ANYWHERE in the Telecom XT network.

It will work anywhere in 2G with Vodafone and 2degrees. It will have limited 3G coverage on Vodafone and 2degrees because it's 850/2100 MHz while Vodafone uses 900/2100 MHz.

Thanks for the clarification Mauricio. Thats better than I thought then - voice/sms everywhere but data speeds limited outside of metro areas.

When using on Vodafone/2degrees, yes. Otherwise full on Telecom XT.

I know this is the wrong forum for posting this, but since we're talking about this phone here, anyone interested in a brand new Motorola Milestone with carholder, all still shrinkwrapped so will have that nice new phone smell?
