umm why should i pay to get it unlocked? ,it was purchased on an auction site "secondhand" i have no contract with skinny? (i wasnt the original buyer) or is my knowledge of the law really bad?? :) ,can someone clear this up for me please ,thanks

You are going to pay someone to unlock it, so why not buy from the operator?

The fact you bought it second hand or not doesn't make any difference, it's still locked and you still have to pay someone to get it unlocked.

There's nothing to do with "law".

Skinny lock their phones because they subsidize them. Hence the $30 unlock fee.

I think your best bet is to pay skinny the $30 to unlock it.

Chances are any method you find online will be for another carrier which won't work.

I will help you. I will repeat what has been posted numerous times above.

RING SKINNY, PAY $30 AND YOUR PHONE WILL BE UNLOCKED.

Had you done this 3 hours ago you would have had an unlocked phone for the last 2 hours and 55 minutes.

Failing that you're going to have to take the issue up with the seller who sold you a locked device.

Its more than likely that you can reflash it and clear the lock.

However - I would have concerns about your technical knowledge and ability to do so if you didnt know skinny was locked to begin with. Flashing could end up giving you an expensive paper weight.

Pay the $30 and lesson learnt........

!!! i did know it was locked , and as for my technical knowledge ......15 years as a heavy industrial electrician working in automation and process control ,7 years as a computer tech and owning my own business :) i know it can be flashed ,just wanted to know if there were other ways to do it. thanks

I would have investigated that prior to purchase myself, but good luck.

Check XDA as the best source for ROM's and unlocking advice which may or may not suit your hand set.

Just curious as to why you would buy a locked phone which clearly mentioned on the auction that it was Skinny?

For someone with that level of knowledge and experience, knowingly buying a locked device (that will at it's simplest cost $30 to unlock) in a market full of unlocked devices.... just seems like an inefficient way to solve a problem.
And then to spend the time to try and do it differently...... Not a course or exercise I would willingly undertake. I have lawns to mow!
