That thread is really helpful, thanks. Apparently the Nexus 5X doesn't have proper 4G under 2deg/vodafone, only Spark, so that should probably be ruled out for Mum. So LG G4 is the front runner and my current recommendation, with a fallback to the Hauwei P8 if she doesn't like the G4.

Which one did you end up getting in the end? I'm on the hunt for a midrange phone to replace my Work galaxy s3 mini which is crap; the LG G4 looks good and so does the Huewei P9 Lite (except for basic glass screen and no app tray!)... Any others of interest?

How about when I add this requirement: a decent camera, suitable for being the main photo on an overseas trip. Oh and working overseas would be a bonus.

I was about to say "don't be stupid, a phone will never substitute for a decent camera", then saw your signature

I'll still say that IMHO, using a phone as a primary camera for an overseas trip is not a good idea. Factors such as the limited optics and battery life inherent in a phone just don't stack up

A Panasonic CM1 with a large 1" sensor is one of the few smartphones I'd consider an acceptable "replacement" for a dedicated camera when away on holiday.

I'm in the market for a similar phone for myself too

Does LG still use that PC Suite software from back in the Gingerbread days - that bricked a phone of mine I said never an LG again !

I can't decide whether I get 5" or 6" or somewhere between, I have this feeling I should get as big as I can

My only mandatory requirements are Android and NFC
