TXT for vodafone is a Ca$h cow. Vodafone LIVE is yet another cash cow. not only do you get charged to download what you want, you also get charged data rates to browse their graphic heavy LIVE site. and data charges to get the ringtones/javagame/background.
In Vodafones defense, Telecom Cash in on full minute rounding on PrePay and their exorbidant "non Xtra" data charges and super expensive "content providers" namely the news etc at 35c per pop!. Non Xtra WAP is 50c per 10KB vs 10c per 10KB on vodafone.
I read 12 news stories on wap.nzherald.co.nz for 30c on the train!!!
That's how they can offer the $10 TXT. Apparently the "break even" point is 250 TXT's to Vodafone before they lose.. (You do the math)
of course Telecom counted on the fact that with $10 TXT an even number of messages were send back and that "i'm on $10 TXT so my friends will join me as it's the coolest deal" meaning it's effectively free for Telecom., It didn't quite work as planned. Telecom got a shock when Vodafone overtook their customer numbers and panicked.
Before I changed to the Motormouth on account plan , I checked and found I had 3 cdma numbers
and 160 GSM numbers in my sim card. So the 021 to 021 is not a problem for me but yes totally agree the lack of landline access from the free minutes is a bit of a pain .
