The stuff article made it sound like Spark had only recently shut down its 2G network. Wasnt that years ago?

I would think a 3G version may have some appeal - maybe if the sales are good for this 'retro' phone they may build a 3g version.

I am quite interested in the Nokia android phones - Nokia used to have very good design and build - wonder what they will be like and if they will be sold here.

It was like Nokia were intent on committing suicide when they went all out with Microsoft. Seemed such an obvious mistake. If they had built a couple of quality Android phones just to keep their options open they would have never gone away in the first place. There were leaked articles about some annoyed Nokia engineers that had actually hacked one of the Windows phones to run android.

And Voda is turning their one off - clearly signalled to market.

Ah well.... 30day battery life came from somewhere. I remember when GSM used to be 'power hungry' and 'nasty' compared to DAMPS.....

Well when I say never they've never had a *public* GSM network. When they started deploying 3G they were going to originally deploy both GSM and WCDMA, but after rolling out GSM in Petone and Lower Hutt (which has always been a test bed area for mobile) the decision was made by deploy a 100% 3G only network.

Long enough I guess. Problem is the coverage of the 2g seems somewhat junk compared to 3g when I have been having a play with cheap GSM modules. Same on a phone too so not the sub $2 GSM radio.

Specs aside, I do think they have nailed the design.

Well hurry up and make some so that spectrum can be put to better use for protocols not made 20+ years ago.

Also possibly why NZ won't get the 3310... Will "Mokia" release it just for NZ if Oz can't use it?

There was a time for a phone built into a car. That has long gone now.

Besides, the in car ones will only do calls to other phones, probably 80% of my communication is done over facebook messenger or wechat/whatsapp now, neither of which any inbuilt solutions seem to work with.
