aw:

Can now confirm with a combination of this firmware and this Settings app patch to force enable VoLTE settings in the menu (MediaFire link), plus maybe some of my carrier config files or not (I haven't tested rolling them back), My 2720 Flip can now make and receive calls again. I'm so happy 😁

That's awesome! I'm happy for you.  Sounds like the perfect solution for what you want, plus you don't have to spend any hard earned pingers in this foobar'd up economy.

So it turned out the solution was to hack the phone even more.

Awesome job to get it working! Maybe that firmware had the required profiles you needed!  😁

Yeah why not just uninstall all the stuff that is time consuming?

Even a web browser is too much and too addictive.

Here is another option for those looking for a dumb / feature phone (touchscreen option):

iPhone > Settings > Accessibility > Assistive Access

  • "Apple built a tool for people with cognitive disabilities, but I accidentally discovered it’s also the best kids’ phone setup no one is talking about—not even Apple."
  • "I have been looking at classic dumb phones for months. Not out of nostalgia—though the first phone I bought with my own money was the Nokia 8210, and I still think about it (launched in October 1999 at Paris Fashion Week, it was then the world's smallest and lightest mobile). But the day I've been dreading has come: It's finally time for my son to get his first phone." - Jeremy White, Wired

I managed to avoid having a phone at all until just a couple years ago. In my old age I finally decided to get one mainly for safety reasons. I knew nothing about them and did not want to complicate my peaceful retirement unnecessarily but some helpful people here explained it all to me and then someone gifted me a Cat 40! It is a great dumb phone. It doesn't do anything except make phone calls and tractor noises. It is perfect for my use case.
