I've always used a Nokia phone, but ever since I switched to the iPhone last year, I'm not looking back. The iPhone far more advanced than Nokia in terms of software and useability. Furthermore, with an Apple, you are not forgotten even when a new hardware is released. Apple constantly updates their firmware even for their older generation iPhone.
I should also point out that I've not seen a single Nokia app that supports WMA-based radio streaming, and as I'm an avid listener of online radios, it's not a feature I can do without. So iPhone gets my thumbs-up.
As for other aspects, like the camera, I have to say the software interface is used far more frequently than the camera. A2DP will be supported in iPhone 3.0, so will turn-by-turn voice navigation (well, depends on a published making an app for it).
How about Nokia internet radio? Great for the online listening...
iPhone is good at what it does, and if what it does is enough for you then look no further.
If on the other hand you would rather have a decent camera in your phone, along with quite a few other features not offered on the iPhone then look elsewhere.
I'd wait for the Omnia HD to come out, its a couple of months away so save for it and make it within your price range. I'll be getting one (and probably an N97 too, will keep whichever I like more), and will post a mini-review here for interested people.
Vs the iPhone it has: At least equivalent sound quality, could well be better (Samsung are creating devices with excellent audio quality lately at their high end) Up to 32GB storage, 48GB once the 32GB microSDHC cards come out later this year (they will be compatible) Better screen - bigger, better resolution (640x360), better display characteristics (OLED screen) Capacitative touchscreen (same as iPhone) 8mp Camera (same sensor as the Innov8 - ie very good) with LED flash (not great, but better than none) 720p video recording with TV-Out via DLNA All the other usual features of the symbian high-end, some of which are coming to iPhone (A2DP, bluetooth file transfer, modem capability, GPS with voice, flash support, 3.5mm audio jack)
I tend to disagree that Apples software front is more advanced, there is a mass of software for the Symbian OS, the difference is that Apple has made it more accessible via their store. Its not all benefits though, Apple gets to exercise their rigorous control over the apps (to me over-rigorous and controlling), and you get caught in the caged-aspects of the Apple platform (having to use iTunes for example).
EDIT: The post saying go with Apple because the iPhone has been so successful made me smile - I wonder if they know that the Symbian OS is the number one smartphone platform? Its sold several hundred million more handsets running it than the iPhone has...
Thanks to everyone for your feedback. I'm now leaning towards the Nokia 5800 as I can use Garmin XT navigation in it and it will be very useful when I head to England in July.

I'd just get it from Expert Infotech, their price is amazing considering how much better this phone is than the more expensive N95. Looking at $700 once you factor in the price of a 16GB microSDHC card, magic.
I'm interested to see the result of this. I too am looking at an upgrade. Currently I have a 'stupidphone', but am interested in taking a great leap forward

I suspect that there will probably be heaps of other things I will find useful, but I tend to be a bit of a late adopter. I've only just started playing with Evernote, and note that I could get M$ Onenote through work, which performs much of the same task, but I like the idea of a native app on the phone, which evernote has.

Poor customer service. I asked for a mobile to be posted to Auckland instead they sent it to New Plymouth. Then they told me looking at the address on their website on my profile that it was posted to Auckland. I went to change my profile on their website after I called them up a few days ago that I'll be leaving New Plymouth after leaving 10 days for the mobile.
They said ok, no problem.
The woman on the phone said that they got mixed up with the street name which was hazel avenue. There's only 1 hazel avenue in auckland how can it be mixed up?
Nevertherless I received the mobile at my friend's back door. The courier just left it there and left.
