taniwha - Exactly why i don't ever want to buy an 027 phone again. I refuse to pay 3.50 for a ringtone when on Vfone over GPRS I can get about 20 for that price or free with Infrared. It's just little things like that that put me off Telecom.

I like the Price of Telecom's 027 txt and the decent range of phones Vodafone have so if someone could combine the 2 i'd change over to them.

cat-mice.

there's an idea... you know TalkZoneZero... you don't have to be business entity to have that service, what you can do is round up your mates or people you constantly stay in touch, to get on that.. and pay as little at $40 per month and all the phone calls are free within your team. though this does not include txt or data. but if you have 3+ people and more often on the phone, then it's good to switch.

i'm on motormouth so i can call my partner and my family member for free on VF2VF 200 anytime, and txt 200 VF2VF free. and cheaper landline calls... and since i don't call 027 or rarely ever call anyone on 027... many of my contacts are already on 021.

the $3/month is less than ideal for myself.. most months i do about 500k of GPRS (if it was cheaper i'd do more)
but every now and then i head away for the weekend or a holiday, and then i need about 20MB.
Over december i did 80MB.

my telecom phone i've switched from prepay to contract and back again so many times i've lost count..

Vodafone won't let me do that.. You can't change account type. If you have a postpaid vodafone account, and you shut it off for a month or two, then you have to buy a new sim/new account/new phone-number to turn it back on again. Vodafone won't reconnect my postpaid sim..
I only use my GSM phone for GPRS - no phone calls, no sms (i use my cdma for that)

So, my GPRS is all at the casual rate on prepay.

Here i am berating jama for carrying 2 phones.. and i'm doing the same myself ;-)

chiefie, although I haven't been a Telecom NZ customer for six years now (using Saturn, TelstraSaturn, TelstraClear) I can't complain about TNZ services. I only use Telstraclear because of their 10mbps connection for home users - Telecom is not even close to offer this at a good price.

I've called them to get a refund from my old landline, and a cheque arrived timely in the mail. Have you ever tried calling TelstraClear through their Help Desk? Lucky I use a Bluetooth headset on my landline as well. The last time I had to talk to someone I was 45 minutes on hold waiting. That's when someone actually answers the call on the other side.

But please folks back to the data traffic price topic.

seriously???
I've tried twice now to get vodafone to move my account from postpaid to prepaid, and to reconnect an old sim card... they refused - the reason: "we don't do that".....
I was also told they have chosen to not let customers reuse their old phone numbers on new account.

I didn't realise i could put my vodafone account on hold.. I wish they'd offered it!!!

I'm glad I complained here - otherwise no-one would have told me!

I might think about getting _another_ postpaid account...

you do however have to pay minimal for on-hold and if i remember correctly, you can have first 3 months suspension is free. need to check with my sis, cos she suspended her account when she was on holiday.

i became a telstra customer after they took over saturn...

when ever I called their 0508 wait wait wait helpline, i would get disconnected after 40 minutes of hold music.

We would have races, calling from both landlines, and all flatmates cellphones simultanesouly, and see who got to an operator first...

eventually we worked out that if you call from a cellphone, you get through quicker. They must have some call cost calculator on their hold queue.

as far as the "call on hold" i have lousy service from telecom, hp, vodafone, telstraclear and just about anyone!!!!! what are those people doing? let the phone ring and see who bother picking it up? i constantly get furious with waiting and my conversation on the topic with them usually ended up frustrated (due to long wait, and very lack of help on the service more often).

though having said that, i never have to call telstra-clear because i have not experience any fault with their services at all, when i used to be telecom customer, i have to wait good 20-40 minutes only to find their lack of competency in doing something right, then next month and so on... (this was when i have to call up 12 times in 10 months to get telecom to stop chargining me for jetstream.

I opted for self-service through online services and such... sick of dealing with monkeys on the other end of the line... either that or i do it in person, face to face...
