The other main advantage I see with winmo, is it you can code in dotnet, you can very quickly add your own programs to a winmo device.

iPhone requires a mac for development, and symbian is c++/c or j2me, but with j2me not every thing is available.

sbiddle: I don't think there is a best OS out of all. All 3 have strong points and bad points to them depending on your requirements.

If you want email the Blackberry is best by far.

If you want VoIP Symbian for example is the only OS to have a built in SIP stack and VoIP client that integrates fully with the call list. This means you can use VoIP over WiFi or 3G transparently without requiring any other apps.

If you want a large number of apps and games then the iPhone is miles ahead..

+1 that the VoIP / SIP on Nokia/symbian is pretty awesome. I had a few niggles setting it up (resolved thanks to the kind folks at geekzone), but once it works its pretty cool. Walk in the front door (actually down the front steps) and cell phone becomes a landline, with calls by default going over VoIP with no special prefixes or programmes to run.

I also have a work BBerry, and the email and keyboard is probably about as good as they come. But I can only vouch for it with an enterprise quality Exchange server, not anything else.

Notwithstanding the above, I am also mighty tempted by the HTC magic and its google goodies.

So yeah, they all have good and bad points I guess...

I was thinking about this thread as I caught the train in. One I'm pleased to see that it hasn't denigrated into an OS war where all the fanboys come out and don't listen to reason.

The other thing was I was trying to figure out which I prefer. As an OS for customisation, apps, features, and for being able to develop I prefer winmo....so why don't I have a winmo phone now....well because their form factors suck. All winmo phone (ok 90%) are PDA style.

My phone of choice at the moment would be the E75 form factor (numeric keypad with slide out qwerty - and WLAN) but running Winmo. I don't know of any Windows Mobile candybar/flip or slide phones.....

I'm very familiar with both the WM and Symbian OS environments, I like both for different reasons.

If you want options and customisability then its hard to go past WinMo, with the rather large caveat that you have to have the time, inclination and ability to invest in tweaking the phone to your liking. I quite enjoy it, so WinMo isn't a problem OS for me.

I like playing i must admit.
I know MS very well so no problem there.

But i think the Iphone is the leader of the pack when it come to being Flash.

Still not 100% sure which OS i will be going for but i think 60% WM 10% Nokia 30% Iphone simply becouse of the software out there for the OS's

Now Google OS is starting to take off i would be very intrested in getting hold of one to play with but i think it will be some time before there are Apps available.

davidcole HTC make a WinMo phone (can't remember the model name) that has the E75 form factor...

I'd like to echo the sentiments posted above too - nice to see a rational discussion of the OS environs going on here, rather than the typical degeneration into flaming whichever OS isn't to your liking... The thread seems to be attracting quite a few posters with experience in multiple operating systems, which I don't often see...

Is this what you were thinking of: Touch Pro2

I must say apart from the angled slide it farking ugly. Also its big and chunky like the old k-jam I used to have. Nothing like the sleek e75. Trouble is all winmo phones seem to be similar, they figure for a slide qwerty they have to be 20mm thick by 60mm wide.

No, its the exact same form factor as the E75, its the HTC 740 I think. Don't think its as sleek as the E75, but it is the exact same form factor.

My Xperia is 17mm, which is pretty sleek for a slider QWERTY.
