sbiddle - I think you are wrong there matey..... Of course $10 TXT helped Telecom capture customers off Voda. Why is it a problem? I am sure the people at Telecom who put this deal together are not idiots and there was probably never the intention of retracting the offer. If it is successful why would you stop it?

Funny, if Voda don't need to offer specials on Txt, why the free weekends? Looks very reactive to me......

Actually, Telecom don't want to get rid of $10txt! It is sucedding in pulling txters from voda, and the interconect has gone through the roof (which is the real reason voda wont do an internetwork deal)...

I must admit when Telecom started $10txt i thought they were commiting suicide, but it turns out it was a stroke of genius from a business point of view.

You see it used to be that Voda made a lot of money from txt. They were using the money they made there to fund marketing for their sadly lacking SME and corp segments... when $10txt came along, the voda push for SME and corp slowed right down, another win for Telecom...

As far as cost is concerned, Telecom has the capacity, and can afford to keep the promotion in place for the forseable future (or so I believe)...

Really, free on the weekend doesn't compare to $10 txt- as far as SMS is concerned, Telecom is the better option.

For voice and other sevices, I'd still go with Telecom- historically it may have been different, but as far as mobile is concerned, today Telecom have better service, better services, and better pricing...

Still, people start smoking everyday, so I figure there will always be people who prefer vodafone.

Buying expensive handsets tends to 'lock-in' an user to a network. Also the ability to use imported handsets/use their handsets overseas helps too.

But more recently.... lack of decreasing sms prices have been making $10text more attractive

Agree Cokemaster, ths cost of the handsets is IMHO a bit high... wish we had the sort of crazy pricing that's been seen in Aussie lately...

Yeah, we'll see if Voda's network get's nailed again with TXT spam!

The person who originated that SPAM message must have surely got a kick out of all the fiasco they caused!

Yeah - made good business sense for Telecom to cap $10TXT to maintain a good offer out in the market and avoid the issues Vodafone will now be facing every weekend for the until March 2006!

At least it'll will keep their network guys busy on the weekends..

It's certainly interesting that Vodafone have no cap on their weekend deal, considering that this was a major mistake of Telecom's when they first released their $10 text deal. If a lot of people abuse the new Vodafone offering and Vodafone has to introduce a cap as a result, then they may face the same backlash that Telecom did when they introduced their cap. However, I have feeling that this won't happen because Vodafone's marketing team are very switched on and have probably anticipated this.

As to whose deal is better, it depends entirely on your usage patterns. Those who send messages mainly in the weekend would be better off on Vodafone, while those who typically send at least $10 worth of text messages per month, with a significant number being during the week, would be better off with Telecom. It's good to have the differentiation between the two providers so that people can choose the deal that suits them best.

Having said that, I hardly ever use text messaging and, like Steve, would prefer cheaper calling rates. In my opinion, people who send a few hundred text messages per month need to track down their phone's manual and find the section entitled 'how to make a phone call'!

*sigh* they introduce free text for teh weekend _after_ i buy a new telecom phone..

leaders, followers - makes no difference to me so long as there's competition.

i'm a hoping telecom tries to sway the data users from vodafone with some cheap dataplans..

It looks like the person who posted the reply you are talking about has removed it...

I was going to answer that because the person did not have all the required knowledge to make the comment, but I will let it go for now...

it's a pity - that might have been entertaining..

i am pleased that vodafone finally replied to the telecom's $10 txt - but i think vfone have more replying to do

Vfone seem to be doing a lot of vfone<->vfone deals, and vfone-->landlines.
Telecom never "replied" to the motormouth deal.

It's not enticing me at all, but i know very few people who are still on 021. Those that are still on gsm are there because they can't get handsets to do what they want in cdma.

I wonder if it's really working for them, and also hope vfone cook up something better soon.

"Telecom never "replied" to the motormouth deal."
Didn't they introduce 'mates rates' which was similar to motormouth?

That's what I was thinking, Cokemaster. Mates Rates is virtually a carbon copy of Motormouth, with the only major difference being that it's only available to prepaid users.
