NZCoderGuy: First mobile i had was a Telecom Prepaid mobile - Audiovox - this was before Bellsouth was Vodafone.
This wouldd've been around the 1995-1996 era.

That what I had too and it was around 1994-95.

I was working for a private telecoms outfit up north just after deregulation (88?), and we started selling cellphones as soon as they came out.

I remember us getting one of the first Motorola (?) ones which was a handset...that was attached to this huge breifcase. Monstrous thing it was! Heavy as too, but when you have nothing like it, it seemed just amazing. You literally had to lug it around.

They were a brick, but they were a fantastic phone, I would still use one today if I could!

For billions of years since the outset of time, every single one of your ancestors survived, every single person on your Mum and Dads side, successfully looked after and passed onto you life. What are the chances of that like?

Was given to me as a company phone in 2000, peice of sh*t, by the time I got it the battery was lucky to last until lunch.

Had it for about 2 months until I got the big upgrade to the Nokia 5110

Motorola 5200 - piece of junk and they put the letters on the wrong keys - not that it mattered since it was in the days before you could send a text.

Was uber-cool in it's day - most people were lugging around the "brick" (the ubiquitous Motorola Dynatac...I was just a wee bit cooler. It helped that I was in the cellular industry back then, I suppose.

Was uber-cool in it's day - most people were lugging around the "brick" (the ubiquitous Motorola Dynatac...I was just a wee bit cooler. It helped that I was in the cellular industry back then, I suppose.

Same bro! I was the envy of all my mates (none of them even had a phone)

I also had a Telecom Minicall pager around the same time lol

My first mobile phone was the Motorola 8000 series classic brick.
something like this:

mototola classic

and then a little later I upgraded to the new fangled "slim line" brick - I think it was the classic II - or something like that:

and then I upgraded to the first Motorola flip phone - the Motorola MicroTac:

and on and on it went :)

I thought I was flash as I had one of the first ones issued here (0868-00008)

Im surprised to hear they're still used!
