kyhwana2: Is there a 850/2100mhz 3G version of the Galaxy S? I wasn't aware that the stock GS did 850mhz 3G?
All comments are my own opinion, and not that of my employer unless explicitly stated.
dclegg:lokhor: Also I have recorded video in a concert and the audio was terrible, it may have been improved since the newer firmware changed the recording format and also @supercurio is working on sound recording improvements so this may be remedied.
I forgot to ask before; do you have this concert footage available on YouTube or elsewhere?

lokhor:
I think I may have deleted it :/ I'll check if i backed it up on my PC when I get home.
Wipeout: Love my Galaxy S. But I must say that I would not recommend it to anyone not technically minded. I've always said to my friends, who asked me about recommendations on the smart phones, that if they want performance out of the box to go for iPhone, and if they like to tinker with things, go for Galaxy S.
lofreq:
as a crazy analogy, a galaxy s out of the box - is a ferrari, covered in cowsh1t, shackled to a rusty caravan. but u can wash it off, and give it a polish; you can unhitch and dump the caravan; you can tweak the motor, change the colour, interior trim, wheels, stereo, turn it into a VDub, whatever to your hearts content.
an iphone is a red ferrari, covered in glass. no work needed - it is perfection. but locked down. pay thru the nose take it or leave it. in a sea of red ferraris. (oh, you WERE promised one other colour, but until now youre still waiting for it...)

Love the analogy! It pretty much sums up my concerns with Android. Are there any current (or soon to be released) Android implementations that come closer to the Ferrari without the cow dung and caravan? FI, how does the Nexus S stack up?
While I do have the ability to tinker to a certain extent, I'm not 100% sure I want to. Life is so busy these days that I'm not sure I really want to spend a few hours just to get a phone to work the way I want it to. OTOH, the geek in me is not sure he doesn't want the flexibility to do so, if he so chooses later on. Decisions, decisions :-)
So I guess I'm looking for a phone that gets as close to the iPhone as possible out of the box. This may yet end up being the iPhone itself, but I've not given up on the Android dream just yet.
kiwitrc:
The Galaxy issues are not Androids fault rather Samsungs fault as detailed earlier on in this thread.

Indeed - if money isn't an issue, then the Nexus S is essentially the Galaxy S 'done right', with ext4 instead of rfs etc.
I'd wait a bit longer for other people to test it before buying though.

I'd like to say "Money is no object", but I expect the wife would not be too happy with that stance :-)
Realistically I'm looking for something around the iPhone 4 16GB price point.

At this stage, I'm probably looking at a late Feb/early March purchase. So hopefully that will give plenty of time for Nexus S feedback to come in. I just hope it settles down to an affordable price. A couple of local websites currently have it for around the $1000 mark, but one of them (MobiCity) have that listed as a sale price, with the normal one at $1269. If it jumps back up to that, it may be a little too rich.
