rayonline: With todays featured and expensive phones ....  how do you use it .... to prevent it going offboard, try and make a compromise and select maybe 4 or 5 things.

For me.
Basic text and call.
Calendar, clocks.
(yep pretty boring :D )

Web email at the hotel (only away from home, overseas or NZ).
Offline GPS as I travel abroad regularly (only away from home, overseas or NZ).
Music (overseas on flight) as I use no frills airlines.  But generally don't use this.

I use my smart phone as a mini-PC.....

But basically:

1. Email / TXT / phone
2. Social networks (FB, G+, Tw)
3. Camera - stills and video - 2D and 3D
4. web browsing / RSS feeds / news updates / information / GEEKZONE!!!
5. MP3 player / video player
6. Apps of all kinds, as required.

Hi - iPhone 4 Jailbroken (just moved from Jailbroken iPhone 3GS).

I use most of the functions that people have mentioned, as well as -
Updating my occasional blog - often using photo editing apps
Changing music remotely (often when I don't agree with our kids choices)
Family synchronised shopping list
Using a specific timing app when shooting guns (it listens to the gunfire & starts/stops timing)
Using an app to shoot my camera remotely
Checking sun path before heading out to photograph a building
Trade Me app
Fuel efficiency app
Check movie listings
Get photographic subjects to sign a 'model release' app
Copy/paste between desktop & phone
DVD library list
Walking route app for fitness
Language translate app
Locate my wife via GPS... probably should give our kids iPhones, too

Cheers,
Mike

Wade: This is all comng from a guy who once questioned why anyone would need a smartphones and was blissfully happy tied to a PC and basic phone lol

Smartphones are like power steering in cars, things that you never knew you always had to have - as soon as you have them you can't go back!
