thanks ipwise.
i've only used the test phones here, which they are being re-flashed every week or so.
Once they've been released i'll see if the bugs are still there and get back to you.

but, maybe you could explain to me the purpose of the Cindy's camera?? we can't work out what your supposed to do with the photos..
other than view them, what are we supposed to be able to do with these saved photos?

Hi taniwha, there's going to be a usb cable with pc sync software for it that will be able to download the photo's to pc also. The original plan for the GCP-4020 was to be able to send them via MMS, and the phone has the capabilities, but they've been disabled in firmware for the moment. The primary reason I've heard so far is that the MMS features aren't ready on the network, so there may be a firmware update at some stage to re-enable MMS, or it will be launched on the next phone. It's a bit of a shame as the MMS features would have been an excellent addition to CDMA.

Jarad.

I don't think there is a way to turn off the startup songs, but I'll pass a message along the line about it. Although yes, it is somewhat audible.

In terms of the shutdown sound, if you switch it to silent mode first, then shutdown it won't do the shutdown sounds. ie: turning off phone at the start of a movie at a cinema, etc.

Use * and hold for a few seconds to switch to silent mode (vibrate only, no sounds). Then if you shutdown it just does the graphics without audio. The sound will re-enable on power on, or use * again to turn off silent mode.

Jarad.

groovy. maybe i'm too fussy with phones.

add MMS to the cindy, and it's a halfway decent phone.

the last grumble i have with it, (apart from the s/w bugs) is the over all gimicky feeling of the menus and UI.
i'm probably not the target consumer for this phone. the pink really gets to me, but they seem to have a little less pink each time they re-flash it.
the cartoon car on the outside screen @ start up is too cute, i'm sure teenage girls will love it anyways :-)

the screen is really sharp and clear in sunlight :-), and i like clamshells. hey, I gotta give the phone some praise.

lol, it definitely is a retail oriented phone. although I'm surprised at how many features they put into it aswell. I do like the D-Day feature though. Reminders and countdown for important days (ie: birthdays you really shouldn't forget).

At any rate, I should get back to other work, will check back here later for messages.

thanks for the silent mode idea.
but that brings up somethign else.
why doens't he phone remember that it's in silent mode, and stay there when you turn it back on.. simple things like that are actaully really important (at least to me).

IPwise: Thanks for that info. I have just managed to get my hands on one this afternoon. Unfortunately, the driver disc supplied contains only drivers for Windows systems. I have just downloaded a third party OS X driver which I think should do the trick, but I can't test it as I don't have the handset with me right now.

If it doesn't work, whereabouts would I find the proper OS X driver for this cable?

alasta: send me an email, with the APT Serial Number (on silver sticker of cable), and I'll reply with the Mac OS-X drivers. There's a USB-Serial driver, and also a modem script with some installation instructions.

As the APT cable is a 3rd party cable the drivers are different to the genuine Kyocera cable. So you'll need to ensure you have an APT cable.

I'll tap in & check for an email later on tonight.

there are a couple of Nokia's coming out, even one with inbuilt camera, can't comment on specifics just yet till it becomes public knowledge.

I work for portables too as does pete, Im a wireless data engineer....
There is an Auck APT branch above us, the GTRAN phone is pretty good, although surprised to not see bluetooth on it. I think it supports themes for changing menus? can tame some of the pink :)

cheers,

rocklemon: you should contact your telco.
If you are in NZ, then that would be telecom. cals *123 from your mobile
might be a good idea to write down the ESN onf your phone before you call. it's usually under the battery
