Does it really matter, its only on some US carriers, just like its only on some Apple products.

As suspected, this seems to be just telemetry data collection.

It's like the noise created when people complained about companies collecting WiFi AP MAC addresses (not the Google case where data was actually collected and stored).

There's some extra data being stored, but these don't seem to be intentional, rather something left behind.

Though would be nice if they had told people ahead of time, that they were collecting.

Personally I see WiFi. WiFi as I see it is standing on the roof with a megaphone and unless I encrypt it I expect everyone to listen to it and use it for their on personal gain.

On the other hand I see my phone far more personal and don't expect there to be software I don't know about running and logging things to file. Sure some of the stuff logged wasn't intentional (benefit of doubt) but shows lack of code and testing that it was allowed to get through. They do after all CIQ do say they want to keep their app as low impact as possible and log statements for each key stroke will use a tiny fraction of CPU and battery which all adds up.

Not denying they should be upfront. The data doesn't seem to be different than that collected by Microsoft. The difference is Microsoft put an option in Settings so you can opt in, while these idiots didn't make it optional at all.

Came across this RT News clip within regards to CIQ and the whole big brother spying thing, don't know if any of you will find it useful at all, but there is some information in there, according to this clip since 1996 apparently all phones are meant to come with a built-in back door, whether or not this is completly true or can be found on the phones we use is up to you to find out. The clip even mentions New Zealand.

Apparently the back door can be closed if you wear a tin foil hat but you need to ensure the mobile is also under tun foil
