Anyone have a link to this telecom graph?

Yeah, telecom didn't see it coming..... vodafone probably did, which is why they didn't offer an alternitive..... they saw all the money coming!

Not quite. British Telecom spun off BT Cellnet to what is now O2. Since then BT realised the mistake of not having a mobile operator and tried to enter in a deal with O2, to no avail.

Actually BT resells T-Mobile now, when it needs a bundled offer.

It's interesting to read the article in the Herald where Kevin Kenrick mentions the issue of mailbombing, yet he says the key words, the mailbombing is from Telecom to Vodafone which is costing them the big $$

Kevin Kenrick, Telecom Mobile general manager said the company was changing its offer because a small number of customers had been "text bombing" Vodafone customers which had made them angry and created network issues.

"Our customers call the Vodafone network and we don't want it to drop out because of issues created by text messaging," he said.

In response to somebody asking why Telecom just didn't wait and build a CDMA network rather than deploying CDMA first - building a CDMA overlay on top of an existing AMPS/DAMPS network is a relatively straightforward thing and wasn't particularly costly. There are virtually no new AMPS/DAMPS phones being launched these days, if Telecom's only choice of phones now were 5yr old DAMPS bricks do you really think they'd have any customers left at all?

It is also quite interesting that in KK's document they refer to coverage and moving from "disadvantaged" to "parity". That would also have to be Telecom's first acknowledgement ever that Vodafone's coverage is now superior.

The discussion here is the $10 cap, not the handsets. Some of then are good, and all have to be taken in context. Some people don't need camera phones. Some people need a more business looking phone then a phone that looks like a toy.

There are different segments. Lifestyle is one, business is another. Remember that Telecom is still very strong on large companies, while Vodafone NZ is working hard to get through. Vodafone on the other hand is doing well in SME and youth market.

Different segments, different phones. It just happens that Telecom doesn't have the right phone for the lifestyle sector. Yet. You never know what's around the corner.

someone somehow txt 27,000 txt...... seriously who honestly have the time to send proper txts with that volume, guess it comes down to a small majority ruining it for the rest of the 027's

i connected with 027 last month and nothing really changes untill the end of the year, normally $30 max on txting for myself

I can totally understand with what telecom are doing, this will reduce bombarding txts so common sence is required by users, sure im not of those users who now have to keep an eye on my limit like some of your people in here are most likely not those who are not bombarding and ruining such a great deal

I think telecom were hoping on everyone changing handsets, 14c per message is way to high, can anyone tell me how much vodafone has to pay telecom to send a message to its network?

I was speaking to Tim Miles (Managing Director for Vodafone) today and Vodafone has to pay the same amount as Telecom has to pay them. But as you can imagine, with $10 txt the number of TCOM => VFONE txt's well exceeds VFONE => TCOM txts so Telecom is the one who end up forking out.

Yea Tim is a good guy. 27,000 txt's is roughly one per minute for 12 hours a day, every day for the month. That person needs a life. "Big Kev" isn't going to change his mind about $10 txting, its about time everyone got used to the idea. It certainly caused a stir tho.

both networks , should lower price of texting to 10c , pxting at 20c

includer things like 20$ for 200texts on a plan or whatever...

Even if you are on Vodafone, New Zealand is still the cheapest place in the world to txt and pxt. In australia a txt costs 25c and in most countries pxt is anything up to $1 a message.
