I read some of the earlier posts just now sorry, I would be happy to cancel my expansys order and pool with The NZtechfreak group for the N900. I want this thing so bad...my treasured N95 is about to collapse and I just bought Quake again in expectation of retro gaming on the tablet. I am a Doctor in Christchurch and completely trustworthy when sober. Who can get it to us the quickest and with some reliability. I am less concerned with price, more with just Getting it!

we are semi relying on a user from another forum, but the offer seems to have come to a dead end....

Forget roberth Canterbury...I don't think that is going to happen.
And to be honest, I am not going to trust my money with someone overseas I have never met, and nor has anyone else on nokiausers, by his own admission...its too risky.

If you guys have the money upfront (so to not keep us all waiting) then ya can pool with me and NZtechfreak...we are looking hard and have found some places to import from...we just gota make sure the sites are legit, check the terms and conditions etc, and then we will post here concrete details and try to get a group together for possibly a cheaper bulk purchase

@DarkVader If you 'just want it'....then sure, nothing wrong with expansys, keep your order in and you will get your asap I guess...

We too want to get our N900 asap, but we are also looking at the cost factor, doing our research trying to find the cheapest source...without losing our rights in the process of course.

Currently, Amazon have the N900 available for pre-order at $582 US....unfortunately, they do not allow international orders for this mobile.

I have found 2 other sites, offering the N900 for pre-order a $589 US...and DO allow international orders...but we still have to confirm all the details...

$590 US converted is only $792 NZ...cheap as chips.
Even if you add NZ GST to that, another $100, is still far cheaper than Expansys...

Expansys (NZ), are selling the N900 for $1178...EXCLUDING GST....
$1178 + 12.5% ($147) = $1325 NZ....ouch....

So you can see, thee is a HUGE differnce between buying from a site like Expansys, as opposed to importing from America.

We will keep this thread posted when we have more information or confirmation.

didn't think we had to pay GST for imported goods (i never had to on several previous items bought thru ebay/amazon) when buying out of country - nor their countries sales tax.. not sure on what the "duty" involved is though with customs- but again i never paid that either on previous items ... ??

from what there saying on maemo.org, no- they need to be ported for the device - this applies to the older maemoX apps aswell.

To what I have read...no...Maemo 5 is not a desktop OS, but there are ways around it...you can install Debian as an app, and then yes, you can install general Linux apps....but dont quote me on that.

You pay GST on all imported goods but the IRD will only collect it if the GST is more than NZ$ 50.

Never heard it put that way, easier to think of it as being applied to puchases of a value $400 or greater (same thing, but easier to get your head around).

was not impressed with this phone. the phone i recieved was a fake nokia n85. claimed it was brand new yet there was 282 contacts on the phone. the secondary camera doesn't work. the quality of the menu and the layout of the phone is far from a true n85. not happy

ouch!

Funny reading the auction now, where other losers traders defend this loser, because people asked him about the phone being a fake or not.

Yeah, I've just had half this guys auctions removed for false advertising....his Okta agent phone was second hand, yet he was selling it as new.

It's hard keeping on top of all the trademe scammers though :(
