.... cat / pigeons / set amongst ....

I know of an issue with the 6255 Nokia flip phone.

It tends to turn itself off at random, but only if the keyguard is off.

I know of at least 30 instances of this (plus many more unconfirmed directly to me, but from trusted people).

Telecom is only acknowledging 5 individual cases at present, and is refusing to actually acknowledge a fault with the handset.

I think this is not good enough - what about you?

I do know most areas have experienced zero faults, and some of you have this phone - tell me what your experience has been.

I also have the same problem it mainly happens when writing a text message.

I also had a problem with my phone not receiving multimedia messages... i spent many hours on the phone to telecom and they couldnt fix it so they replaced the handset.

Love the phone otherwise only fault is the random switching off which can get very annoying, it also happens to my girlfriends phone.

You should phone telecom or your dealer and log your fault.
Does your g/f also have a 6255?

I was shown an email this morning that states that Telecom are "looking into" the problem.

Thats better than the previous refusal to acknowledge a problem I suppose.

Ditto here..... have had issues with the phone turning off when doing transfers using bluetooth - have also had the phone cut-out when using infra-red (although this seems to be ok now that I've upgraded to the latest PC Suite).

I've also had a few other problems...

1. Phone resetting itself - when I turned it back on it had wiped all settings and some of the menu icons weren't displaying

2. Twice I have gone to use the camera and nothing shows on screen - turning phone off and on fixed this.

3. Several times the menu background has disappeared whilst typing a text message.

Hopefully they will resolve and release a patch of some sort

Hi there,

this issue is affecting a very small number of handsets. You can take the phone into MFR or a Telecom store and they will sort it out.

also find it crashes rather consistently during long BT headset phone calls - the call continues but the phone won't respond so can't transfer back to handset, can't hang up etc..

guess i'll have to get is flashed and see if that's sorted.

I went into the telecom dealer and they said they were unaware of any issues with the phone and they would have to send it away to get checked, but i really dont want to have to go to that trouble and be without a phone for so long.

One other thing is i cant access the video player from the media menu. The manual says it exists so i am a little confused on that. Anyone here know anything about that?

Yuor actually better to go see MFR themselves if you can, as some Telecom dealers will impose and extra "delivery" charge - even if the ohone comes back with no fault found - plus its a little bit quicker

I know several Telecom dealers. No one is going to charge me any extra, but EVRYONE (including Telecom) is telling me there is no fix for this fault.

What I really need is the contact details (including persons name) who actually knows about the fix for this fault.

Ok, so Telecom dealers do generally charge you to have the phone sent to MFR! They need to eat, so guess that's fair, but if your smart, you should take the device straight to MFR.

The benefit of going to a Telecom dealer is they may be able to get you a replacement handset while yours is off getting serviced.

There are separate issues here, and MFR can only resolve one of them at present.

I can't go into too much detail in a public forum, but the rest of the issues are currently being investigated and a fix will be available shortly.

Just a FYI.....no Telecom dealer should be charging to send a phone away under warranty, regardless of if you purchased it from them or not. This is clear in the Telecom dealer agreement. MFR also provides courier bags (prepaid) for all dealers to send their jobs to them, so no freight costs to dealer.

I think they justify it by saying it's a consultation fee... anyway, lots of them do it and it totally sucks!

I believe (from memory, so don't quote me), some dealers do charge a deposit/bond. So that in the event the fault isn't actually warranty related they're not out of pocket.

example: liquid damage is found once the handset is actually dismantled.

That said, if it is a warranty fault, then there's no reason you shouldn't get the money back when the phone comes back.
