Another service going.

"NOTIFICATION OF SERVICE CHANGE TO CASPA ON-DEMAND

We wish to advise you that bandit.fm, from Sony Music, will no longer be available on the CASPA On-Demand service effective Monday, 27 June 2011.

Further information about this change is detailed below:

1. Your TiVo media device and all other elements of the TiVo service including CASPA On-Demand movies and TV will be unaffected and will continue to operate as usual.

2. You will no longer see or access bandit.fm from your TiVo media device.

3. Any concerts that were purchased and completely downloaded to your TiVo media device prior to 27 June 2011 will still be available to you (in accordance with the viewing rules).

4. Any current/pending bandit.fm concert downloads on your account on 27th June 2011 will be automatically cancelled and refunded."

Their movie and TV section has been going downhill for some moths now..

It's a real shame tivo is a great device.

The lack of content on caspa and no epg on prime are holding it back.

There was some talk about chain stores stocking tivo but nothings happended.

With staff reductions and now service reductions perhaps the end is near?

I don't know if that email means too much, and it was only a few weeks ago that they sent an email to say that Auckland were getting a whole lot of new channels. I also don't think it would close, as many people now have them, and how much infrastructure is actually required to keep it running . If it did happen to close in NZ, there would be a lot of demands for refunds, including those who purchased the expensive home networking package, which would also need to be refunded.Do telecom still have the $360 deal going for telecom customers? I was thinking of buying a second one. I don't use caspa, it's so slow and laggy, so changes to it don't bother me.

I think the brand recognition is strong enough to survive in the marketplace... just not as part of its current distribution model.

Yes the brand and product are both good, but the distribution has been a total fail. They should have been sold in all TV retailers, but I suspect there maybe a reason why they haven't been.

If caspa have tvnz ondemand on it, it would be a great product.

This is probably slightly offtopic, but maybe not:

Did Tivo ever really take off in New Zealand? I don't know anyone that has one, I've never even really heard mention of them IRL, only on GZ. MySkyHDfsckingI I hear about IRL all the time.

I was not living in NZ during the big launch period though, so maybe uptake was huge?

It seems to me a failed product though, in fact I'd forgotten all about TiVo in NZ over the last couple of months until I saw this topic.

Does anyone know how many users took it up?

I wouldn't read too much into it. Sony is probably moving away so they can concentrate in selling their own Qriocity service instead...

Caspa content has steadily decreased over recent months. After receiving countless messages from Tivo about all the great stuff they are going and do and then nothing happens it is hard not to lose faith with these people.

I know what you mean, I get blank stares when I tell people that I have TiVo with Freeview. I just say it is like a Sky Box but only for Freeview channels, they seem to understand that.

Magic TV looks like a good alternative if TiVo falls by the wayside or even Testra's freeview T-Box but sadly no suggested recordings. I think that is where Tivo stands out for me. The amount of times I have forgotten to record something and found it in the suggested recordings.

IF TiVo / Hybrid were to fall over in NZ, what would that actually mean for me as an end-user?

How much behind the scenes support is actually required?
Would the box continue to function as is without anybody in the background doing anything.

The features I expect require support is:
EPG
Caspa
Maybe suggestions?

Surely the rest of the functions could run without a company being behind them?

Now Caspa I don't care about in the slightest, If the EPG were no longer supplied by Hybrid, could the TiVo be hacked to use a different EPG that would still control recordings?

Thanx for the link.

I notice it says "High definition: HDMI with embedded audio x1, Component Video x1" HD over component on a FV certified device, is this true?? Also there seems no way like in the TiVo to copy recording to or from a PC..
