GeoffisPure: Gah... I've had my Tivos for just over a week. Today I turned on my TiVo in the lounge and it was the grey screen of death. Unplugged the TiVo and plugged it back in... "powering up..." screen displayed and then back to grey screen of death. TiVo in the bedroom still works fine.

Looks like I'll have to take it back to Noel Leeming, yeah?

Noel Leeming have a policy of swapping the units on the spot, so you should have no problems.

I unplugged my tivo for a couple of hours, and plugged it back it back in and it's working again. But it has done it again since. After unplugging it for a short time, it seems to work again. Doesn't sound promising :(

Out of interest how much air flow do you have around the Tivo that is playing up?

I have both my tivos standing on their side, with plenty of room all around for air flow.

I took the non-functioning unit back to Noel Leeming today and they swapped it out. The replacement was also dead on arrival. This one doesn't even get past the "Welcome! Powering up..." screen.

SIGH.

They must have a really high DOA rate, and I was told by telecom that they had had quite a lot too. My replacement however is working fine, just took them 2 weeks to send a new one. You are lucky that noel leemings just swap them out. I have another one that is going fine and is nearly 2 years old without any problems.

my brother has sent me a message stating that the free TiVo that I received from telecom during sign up has stopped working. grey screen of death. was only a week old.

Browsing around the interweb it looks like they do not recommend standing them on there side.

Took my second dead TiVo back to Noel Leeming yesterday and got a replacement. This one works fine - I have it all set up - but for some reason the fan on this one makes a noise that is louder than my other TiVo. It's not the sound of the fans on full (the fans settle down after start up as usual) but a constant slightly high pitch noise, like something is loose, perhaps?

As this is the fourth TiVo I've received from Noel Leemings I'd feel silly taking it back just because the fan makes a slightly irritating noise... but on the the other hand it does make my enjoyment of watching TV in the lounge a bit less because of this quiet but noticable noise. Anyone have any suggestions?

If it came to that point for me, I would open it up and replace the fan myself as it's just a standard computer fan. If you don't want to do that, don't put up with the noise, take it back and swap it again.
