I can understand FTA channels running behind time (they have to squeeze as many "shouty" Harvey Norman and Big Save ads in as they can to annoy us), but I find it is inexcusable to advertise a start time, then begin the program before this time. TV3 is the worst offender in this practice. Is it just incompetence, or are they really trying to get us to do something else rather than watch TV?
Why do they pay good money for their so called executives?

Are you sure this is the case? I came home from work yesterday, turned the TV on without changing the tivo channel, and it wouldn't let me rewind. A couple minutes later I tried again and it only let me rewind so far as the two minues I had waited. Don't know why.

On another note, I'm a light sleeper and find the hard drive noise annoying, even though it's not loud. I'm trying to learn to live with it, because the alternative is to switch it off at the wall, and the start up takes a long time.

I don't see how turning on the TV would have anything to do with the TiVo. I tried the standby exersize a couple of months ago and next morning when I turn it back to active i could see the last 30 minutes on the channel that it was last set to.

It doesn't. The point is, I hadn't touched the TV, and presumably the inability to rewind was simply because the Tivo hadn't been touched for a while.

I set my TiVo to standby last nite and this morning turned on the TV then the TiVo and and I still saw the last 30 minutes that the TiVo had recorded while in standby.. I've left my TiVo for a week when I've been away and it still keeps on recording the last channel that it was left on..

sorry if this is hijacking. I didnt want to start another thread saying weird Tivo issues. I dont have a tv with builtin freeview in bedrooms only in lounge. I use tivo and satellite decoders. This a minor but annoying issue. I watch TV1 then switch off the tv. Next day I turn the tv on and I have to grab the remote for the tivo to change the channel back to tv1. During the night it changes the channel probably to record different programs. I would prefer it to be if I was watching tv1 then it will stay on that. I dont know why it changes on its own during the night

HTPC Intel Pentium G3258 cpu, Gigabyte H97n-wifi motherboard, , 8GB DDR3 ram, onboard graphics. Hauppuage HVR 5500 tuner, Silverstone LC16M case, Windows 10 pro 64 bit using Nextpvr and Kodi

yeah it recorded world war 2 on prime. I have suggestions turned on and often about 2/3 of what it records are rubbish but it has also recorded som gems I didnt know were on.
The Tivo wouldnt know the tv is off so why it changed channels from what I left it on is what puzzles me. As I said not a biggie but wierd

He's suggesting it changed channels to what it recorded for you, hence why it's not on the channel you left it on when you come back....

As I understand it, putting the Tivo in standby basically only turns off the video output section, which honestly is not going to save that much.... An option to turn off the constant buffering would be more appreciated, as I personally never use that feature, mainly because I don't watch any live TV anyway.

yeah I understand that is what he is saying, but if I had the tv on and was watching tv1, I wouldnt expect the tivo to just change channel while I was watching. That is virtually what is happening unless the tivo by some magic knew the tv was off and okay to switch the channel

It does change the channel while you're watching - if it needs the tuner to record another channel. It does prompt first though.
What bugs me is when it prompts you to allow it to change the channel on the tuner you aren't watching.

TV2 is a shocker if you want to record anything (advertised) starting at 7.30pm.
