Who still sells VCR's?
I haven't seen one new in a store for a long, long time...
Combo VCR/DVD's disappeared about 1.5/2 years ago did they not?

wallop: You think you are paying top dollar for the Tivo?  When they first came out you would have been, now they are a bargin.

I'm watching a few on TradeMe, most are going for around the $150 mark.

Without any come back if they are a dud or pack up in a year.

One advantage of the TiVoHD being the shape it is, you can stack other devices on top of it. Not so for my Xbox or satellite receiver, which actually take up more space than the TiVo, even though they are smaller.

Also I like the way the TiVoHD it looks. My Series 1 TiVo, *thats* weird looking.

It's not that ugly, or do I have a different version from the one you are all talking about?

I would just call it boring. Also your pic is of it off. But it looks a lot better when the lights are all on, and is in a dark cabinet with the lights on. Perhaps it would have looked better without the silver frame, and it was just a black box.

Now this is what I call a truly ugly tivo http://www.bcliving.ca/files/GVO-NVI-cable-company-3b.jpg

I have the Tivo as pictured above by Nate, and it sits behind a smoke-glass door in the TV cabinet. Hardly notice it at all (and I switch off ALL of the front-panel LEDs). I figure that I don't need to know what it is doing at any one time. I trust it :)

I do that too, but I have the lights on, as then you can see if it is recording or transferring files. If it is showing 2 red lights, then you know you can't change channels. Or if is showing a blue light, then you know why your wifi maybe slower.

I dont understand what everybody has against the looks of a tivo. I like it. Granted its big, but its not exactly ugly. And what it may lack in looks, it sure has the brains wich make up for it.

It definitely looks better when you only see the front of it with all the colourful lights on, and the reset is hidden in the cabinet. If it didn't have the silver frame, and was all black, I think people would like the look of it a lot more. I think the silver frame makes it look a bit unbalanced.
Also the tivo is sort of a basic home media PC, and it does have fans and a hardrive in it, so it is housing a lot more than just a set top box. Some set top boxes are quite big, considering they don't have much in them.
