PimpMyMagic: There's quite a list of addresses and ports used in total for TiVo server connections. Some of them are routinely blocked to stop people running ftp sites I think. My problem started after I was allocated a permanent address by my ISP.
So its not smart enough to fall back to 443/80 ?

Like Gregmmc said, we need some more details about your setup including modem. Is this a sudden problem that occurred whereas before it was all going ok, or is this a new install?

My only experience is that TiVo does not play nice with some modems, especially older ones. I had a similar problem when I first got TiVo and like you after countless hours talking to Telecom I replaced the Telecom provided modem with a Linksys and suddenly everything just worked.

Just a thought.

I'm currently struggling with this problem too. On Vodafone cable in Wellington. All has worked ok for ever, now since 10th Sept the Tivo repeatedly fails with error N15 Could not get account status. Anyone else?

Update on this...

I've been through a very thorough process with our network and router, tried both wired and wireless connections, static IP address or DHCP, set alternative DNS servers, flashed firmware upgrade on router (DD-WRT), set everything to defaults...  but no go.

BUT, if I create a wifi wireless tethered connection via my Android phone into 2degrees network everything works as it should, and quickly.

For now I'm assuming that Vodafone cable has nobbled some ports. They are next on my list.

Since you have DD-WRT flashed can you install tcpdump packet capture anything from your tivo, to a pcap file, open in wireshark on your pc and see what Vodafone are filtering then you can contact them with a bit more info.

Didn't get past level one with Vodafone help desk. They just stated that they don't block any ports. I've now asked them to elevate it so that a tech actually investigates our connection.

I'm short of time at present so am updating weekly via the phone's wireless tethering. I did try to install tcpdump on the router via telnet, but there was a permission error when trying to run it (was logged in as root). I need time to pursue this further.

Well, interesting.

Mid last week Vodafone had an issue on its cable network that took most of a day to fix. Since then our internet access in general has been much snappier, and odd timeouts I was noticing on browsing have gone.

ALSO, the Tivo is able to download data again, and has succeeded every day since.

Problem solved, but not explained.
