Yes it was and it was no problem at all. The copying of recorded content from the old disk to the new disk took a while though and I had to buy a SATA card for my PC because it's old and only had IDE.

I used the method where you burn a boot CD running linux and then run a special program. You can do it from Windows too but I didn't trust Windows to not do something stupid with partitions or otherwise mess with me.

There was also a program I had to run that was specific to the WD drive to change the sleep timer on the drive. If you want me to dig out the instructions I used let me know but they are easy enough to find with google.

Currently running 11.3-01-2-663 firmware. Is this the latest, or will something newer find it's way down in the next week or so?

I'm also thinking of upgrading the HDD to 1TB as per info on the net. Are there any problems with doing this to the NZ units? (apart from voiding warranty)

Yeah, I bought mine on Sunday afternoon (arrived from Telecom Monday lunchtime. Most impressed with speedy delivery). I told the lady at TC that I'd heard about the $360 deal at Geekzone, and she laughed. Said she's just heard about Geekzone that very day. Maybe it was you Old2eyes?

We have MySky HDi also (like you) and I feel both have their good points. Pity about Tivo's EPG missing on Prime, but you sure can customise things more with Tivo, which is probably just as well with only 2x tuners. MySky is probably more family friendly due to it's simplicity. A hybid of both box's functions would be ideal.

Caspa is a joke though. Very limited range tied down with stupid DRM nonscense. Even downloading free music videos gives you about 15 minutes to view, and you're then blocked. Absolutely stupid. Don't those Hybrid guys realise that this sort of carry on just doesn't cut it in 2010. No wonder take up has been slow. Hopefully this big price drop won't be the final gasp, and they're going to disappear in NZ. The box wouldn't be very useful without the internet EPG. Surely they need someone switched on in the marketing side. It has heaps of potential.

LennonNZ: yes.. each tivo needs a seperate MAK.. its just a key based on each tivo's serial number which enables web access to the box

This is not correct. The home networking package is per user ACCOUNT, so you only need to purchase it once to use on two tivos (so long as they are set up using the same account details). I'm not even sure if the software can support two different MAKs? (where would you enter the 2nd one?)

Yep, it is pretty straight forward using WinMFS from the instructions listed on that page. Note that the only difference is you need to use winmfs_beta9_3g for Australian Tivos ("g" at end).

As graemeh mentioned, you need to read the part about running "wdidle3" if you are running a western digital drive. I installed a 1.5TB WD drive (although it can't quite use all of the space) using the instructions on that page and it has been running great for the last 6 months. Account information now lists up to 637 hours HD or 1273 hours SD :-)

Great stuff. Thanks for that. I see my Tivo has had a software update in the last couple of days. Now showing 11.3b3-01-2-663 in System Information.

catdog beat me to it, as they said it is pretty straight forward.

You also have the old HDD from the Tivo as a backup if you ever need it.

Oh.. that was not what was told to me a while ago when I asked Tivo regarding this...

So if I order 5 TiVO's I only have to order 1 MAK and it will install on ALL the 5 Tivo's?

It is not written very clearly, but from the NZ Tivo website http://myaccount.mytivo.co.nz/hnp/use

"With the activation of the Home Networking Package on your TiVo My Account, every TiVo media device on your account receives your Media Access Key (MAK). Enabling of the MAK on your household TiVo media devices allows them to transfer to each other across your home network."

Just to confirm as it's not quite clear, if I wan't to use pyTivo to stream media from my PC I require a MAK correct?

If I don't have a MAK will I be able to see the share I setup in pyTivo in the Now Playing list on my tivo as I currently don't. I don't want to fork out $129 to find out pyTivo isn't working in the first place

edit: nevermind, I just realised that pyTivo copies the file to the tivo which you can play at the same time which would require the MAK

It's a pity streambaby no longer works

yes.. true.. with streambaby you cannot stream to NZ Tivo's due to no one working out yet how to do it. I was going to have a go ages ago as I've had dealings with streaming video in the past but even now at $750 for a Tivo (I'm not an Telecom user) its just too expensive . Even S/H ones on trademe are going (IMHO) too high a price.
