Ive had issues with my tivo as in another thread
But im jinxed when I buy stuff

I think tivo is a great product they had it on sale one day only at telecom stores for 349
Thats cheap for a twin tuner freeview plus all the other great features

I was told they are going to be sellin them in stores etc

Its glorified freeview with 320 gig?? of storage
wireless file transfer to your pc and back you can send avis to watch and stream movies and music
also you can get on your phone or anyones comptuer if you have forgotten to programme it

So its a bit more than glorified lol

All it needs to take of now is a porn channel PMSL

My point is that it's pretty obvious why it's going downhill / being discontinued.

Last I checked you only got free transfer if on Telecom. If you had to pay for all your transfer it's nothing better than having streaming ability on a computer. That was the small advantage it had.

It's not "glorified Freeview". It's a very good DVR (Digital Video Recorders). The other equipments (homecast, MagicTV) are very good DVRs as well. They are not Freeview though.

Freeview is just the branding applied to free to air digital broadcast. It's not the brand of any equipment.

As a DVR, TiVo is above the others in many ways, already pointed out: remote scheduling, automatic recording of suggested programs based on user input (thumbs up/down), content transfer over network.

Even your suggestion that's only good for Telecom customers is wrong.

Oh i thought that suggested programmin thing was a pain but its good as it only will record them if there is time as in wheere you havent programmed it to record something else

I like the manual sugestions too
ive found quiet a few good programmes like that

the reason i got tivo was i didnt want to pay for sky

and it wont go bust they are going to sell them in stores

what about all the HDD and video recorders that wont work after they turn freeview on
Its part of life can it get something else

The big flaw with tivo, is that it doesn't use the over the air EPG, it has to be downloaded from hybrid TVs/tivos servers. Hence it uses the cloud computing model. If it happens to close down in the future, the product almost becomes useless. Obviously people would be protected by NZs consumer laws should that happen, but I don't think it will close, I would expect another company to take it over before then.

Also to the other poster who said it is useless because it requires a telecom connection. That is misinformation, and is one of the things that I think that has prevented the uptake on what is a very good product. Especially at it's very low price for telecom customers. It doesn't actually require a telecom connection, it can be used with any ISP. However if you want to use caspa, and for the data not to count towards your normal datacap, you have to use telecom. If you were to use another ISP, you would just be billed for that datausage as normal.
