I went and sent them a direct message via their website

Also see PrimeTV is owned by sky LOL. Suddenly it all makes sence.

Got an official response from SkyTV:

Prime's listings are not available on TiVo's EPG (electronic programming guide) as at this time TiVo does not measure ratings data. This information is important for a free-to-air broadcaster as the ratings are needed to put a value on PRIME's TV commercials.

We expect that this feature could be available in 2012 when we will review this decision at that time.

The same is updated in our Prime Website FAQ Section:

What a load of .... How do Prime measure the ratings data of the content that I used to watch on MySky? I never connected the phone jack so there was no mechanism for this.

I read the above to be "We're blocking access to the EPG for TiVo to give customers a reason not to choose TiVo."

Also the answer is BS anyway, I am fairly sure that Freeview do not measure ratings data either, TV companies have to pay someone like Neilsen for that info...

This is the same crap reply I got got from them last year. They have just changed 2011 to 2012..

That is just the old statement that was on their website, so has no relation to what Prime/Sky said more recently on their facebook page.

If people do want more action, they should phone up sky/prime about the EPG on tivo, rather than online. It is what tivo are saying to do anyway, if you want the epg on it.

Silly question time for people in the know. How do they aquire viewer data in New Zeland? I assume it's via the phone line with MySky but how is this picked up on other devices? I would be VERY concerned if they are lifting viewing data without concent.

My understanding was that, when tivo gets the guide data, it could also upload a record of what was watched. Perhaps this has been switched off in the NZ tivo, but, tivo could have very detailed viewing statistics if they really wanted to.

Yeah as far as I know the TIVO would stand a better chance of sending viewing data than say, oh I don't know, how about the freeview units, you know the ones that don't connect to the internet or phone lines and DO actually have the Prime EPG already....

Don't a certain percentage of homes in NZ have a device that logs what is watched? I am sure in the T&Cs of these devices it does give permission for the device to send back viewing data. Although it is very big brother, and shouldn't identify the user.
Most freeview devices however don't have anyway to send back data. However my sony TV did once ask me if I wanted to send data back to sony, but that was probably just software related, and not what I was watching.

I agree completely with the assessment of RXV whose interpretation was,

Apart from viewers of Prime which is owned by Sky. More eyes on the screen more advertizers will pay..
