GOT MY TiVo !!!

Had a busy weekend but can report the following;

Wireless connection a lot better than I expected. Seamless setup and good consistent connection.

The really interesting thing that I learnt was the streaming of video from my PC. It works similar to downloading a movie. That it transfers it to the TiVo harddrive, however it allows you to start watching it as it transfers. I did this on an unnamed .avi and it was smooth as Pooh! So even though I had to copy from one PC drive to the TiVo you can set it up to delete after viewing or after a specific time and date. You can get it to auto transfer by filename wild cards as well.

Understanding how this worked was a bit tricky. Once I installed the Tivo desktop software it asks where your specific media resides. Music, Photos and video. I selected a dty for video however I could not get it to transfer to the TiVo. It wasn’t until I copied the .avi to the default “My Tivo Folder” on my PC and Voila! It started transferring. A blue light came on the front which indicated that I can start watching it .

Really cool stuff!

1/         I like fishing shows! I just used the TiVo suggestions search and put in “fishing”. It found 3 shows within 15 seconds, what time they were on and the channels. It then asked if I wanted to record any or all of them. Yes please! Simple as that.

2/           I didn’t buy any movies (may never) however I tried a couple of free music videos. Not high quality, but again allowed me to start watching as they downloaded. Freebies expired and self deleted after an hour!

3/           Music streamed from my designated PC folder, as promised, however probably won’t use this as it does not provide any album art or play list capability (that I have found so far).

4/           Photo’s displayed nicely from my PC (slide show etc). It also offers to view photos off uploaded web albums.

5/         Instant Replay – This is cool! My Mrs always says; What did he say? (I think she is going deaf but I would never suggest this) With instant replay it rewinds live TV by 8 seconds, so if you missed a significant comment you just jump back and get it again.

6/         Fast forward ads. Don’t like ads just fast forward through them on Live TV. Nah just kidding! But a good idea for the future! (actually you can do this if you have paused Live TV and are catching up)
