aaron11: I wouldnt be suprised if it went bust lol

What would be fun about then having a product that's nothing other than a doorstop since you'd lose most of the features such as the EPG?

Back to the days of programming the VCR I guess.  Wait.. That's how I have to program Prime recordings because Sky are so anal...

Kiwi1971:
muppet: This is probably slightly offtopic, but maybe not:

Did Tivo ever really take off in New Zealand?

I know what you mean, I get blank stares when I tell people that I have TiVo with Freeview. I just say it is like a Sky Box but only for Freeview channels, they seem to understand that.

Magic TV looks like a good alternative if TiVo falls by the wayside or even Testra's freeview T-Box but sadly no suggested recordings.  I think that is where Tivo stands out for me.  The amount of times I have forgotten to record something and found it in the suggested recordings.

I went down the track of DVB-T and realized that why limit yourself to only Freeview channels? With 5 Aussie channels and a number of international news channels on various satellites DVB-S is a much better way to go.

I have the Ultraplus F-9000HD and am loving the variety of programming that I am getting with a great HD twin tuner PVR from a 90cm dish.

Surely even if TiVo fell over in NZ Telecom could emply one person part time to create the EPG?

That is the only part of Tivo we MUST have?

I was told from a reilable source that TIVO will be sold in stores
telecom did have it on special for 350.
You dont have to be a telecom customer to run one just the Casper would count towards your usage but they are unmetering

from what I hear

I love my device ive just seemed to ended up with 2 defective ones

Transfer the AVI files and other files to the tivo from the comptuer is amazing

Also need the ability to record remotely through the tivo genie. But all that wouldn't cost much to maintain proportionally.
