Spark Max Fibre using Mikrotik CCR1009-8G-1S-1S+, CRS125-24G-1S, Unifi UAP, U6-Pro, UAP-AC-M-Pro, Apple TV 4K (2022), Apple TV 4K (2017), iPad Air 1st gen, iPad Air 4th gen, iPhone 13, SkyNZ3151 (the white box). If it doesn't move then it's data cabled.
old3eyes:mattwnz:aaron11: Yes well I aint waitin another 6 months for ?the next one to fail again then have no warranty
They only give a month warranty after the 12 months is up
Ohh i can't wait to have all these extra channels
mind you i got my tivo in the bedoroom so hopefully that dont die lol
Telecom told me it was one of their biggest stuff ups selling them
hence they are selling sky in jan?
You are still covered by the CGA after the warranty runs out anyway. These sorts of things should last 3 years minimum, especially as they are valued at around the $800 mark,
Big problem with TiVos is their hard disks failing as you can't put them on standby as they are always recording the last 30 minutes of the last channel you watched. If there was a true standby these things would last way longer..
Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation
aaron11: wow well years ago i paid $700 dollars for a video recorder and that was when they come down in price so .... you had any probs with your tivo

Isn't that the whole point of a PVR? Pause live TV and all that. Personally I want it to keep going all the time, I have recordings set all over the place anyway...hardly ever watch live TV any more.
I am just pleased I do not have to shell out $100+ every month for sky just to watch 99% of the same old rubbish that has been on free to air TV for years. Sure there's the odd blockbuster movie but I get a lot of blue ray disks for that price. If your into sport though...yeah well thats fair enough.

Random reboots have subsided and the unmetered broadband, while Telecom's router's couldn't differentiate data, made it worth it, 300 GB one month.
$99 bucks??? My sky is 23 a month for 12 months then its about 40
and there is tons and tons to watch that aint been on tv before. some of it has but there is heaps of educational stuff on sky
Having had both and still having both
Sky beats tivo hands down

old3eyes: How much do you expect to pay outside of the warranty period when the disk dies??
You missed my point. There is no real standby. So if you go away for a week that old mechanical hard disk is grinding away for that week recording the last channel watched . Normal recorders can be put on true standby so that the hard disk goes to sleep. How much do you expect to pay outside of the warranty period when the disk dies??

I get your point, and I don't disagree that it would be a handy feature, but if I went away away for a week I would be even more likely to have my TiVo running to record all the programs I would otherwise miss. If you don't want to do that then for a week away I would be powering it off completely, along with everything else in the house.

I use to turn mine right off at night time and then back on at ten to make sure i wouldnt miss what i watned to tape... Nothing on at night really to tape with tivo anyway

About $90 for a 1Tb drive. The hard drive isn't that likely to fail, even being run 24/7. Our first TiVo (S1) has been recording 24/7 for?4 years now on a second hand hard drive. The constant power consumption bothers me slightly though...but I haven't yet measured it.
