Thats exactly why I got the TiVo in the first place-Price. A dual tuner pvr for under $200. Just turned out to be a waste of time. Such poor quality, Wish I'd done more research before purchasing. Lucky for me I'm getting my money back. The forums on line are full of how unreliable these things are.

You will generally only hear stories from the people who are unhappy, as people are more likely to write a negative review than a positive on. People who are happy are also busy watching their tivo.

That wasn't the reason. I believe the reaons is because they were initially very poorly marketed, and then they needed to get rid of the old stock.

man I didnt think this would get this big.  As Cloudy says I find Tivo too unreliable for me.  Some people here have had excellent runs with them but not me.   Just like others had troubles with certain brand satellite recorders and I have had excellent run.  Thats another topic though not for here.  I liked the Tivo when it ran and it recorded programs I hadnt known were on that I liked.  I just wish they were reliable for me.
Yes the reason the price dropped was very poor marketing here.  They have been here a while yet there are lots of people who have never heard of them

HTPC Intel Pentium G3258 cpu, Gigabyte H97n-wifi motherboard, , 8GB DDR3 ram, onboard  graphics. Hauppuage HVR 5500 tuner,  Silverstone LC16M case, Windows 10 pro 64 bit using Nextpvr and Kodi

I believe tivo will replace faulty ones, so it shouldn't really be a problem, as they will just switch it. That is the same if you rent one off a pay tv supplier and it fails. Anything with a hardrive is going to be less reliable than just a set top box, as it is something that has a mechanical spinning drive in it. It is possibily the luck of the draw, although I have dealt with 3 DOA ones for freinds and family, and one that died after 4 months, and all have been replaced.

That's because people take up Facebook and Twitter as their Help Desk option. You will only ever see people complaining, never giving praise. Just like here on Geekzone - visit any of the ISPs forums and you will see people complaining they are too expensive (sure everyone wants everything for $19.95), have low speed (which is most of the times a wiring fault in their own homes), or have low caps (again people want everything for $19.95). Very very few posts say good things - there are some brave souls who come around and say "thanks" but it's just a small number compared to the complaints.

But take the complaints in context - as in a percentage of users, and you might see a different picture emerging.

Cool thanks for explaining that to me.. Least i know its only a majority of people who think tivo is a piece of junk that should be used to hold doors open...

What do I do with my home network package can i sell it or give it away???

I have a TIVO. It cost me $200 and it worked fine out of the box.
I have had no problems with it to date.
Replaced a freeview approved 'JC Matthew' PVR unit that was doing dumb things fom time time.

aaron11: Tivo = big piece of junk..
Honestly I got it when it first came out paid 799 though telecom
Had 3 returned one with funny sound, one where the picture would go on and off
and another one where the channel line up was bung everyday

In the end they told me to keep it and credited me the money

Sounds like a bad Antenna install job to me, the dropping channels was resolved as-well

Have to chime in here, my TiVo (touch wood) has worked flawlessly from the day I bought it, at full original price, on the first day it was available in New Zealand. I don't regret paying full price, I have had several years excellent use from it.
I find it very easy to use, I love the constant buffer, I often find good stuff in my suggestions (as I thumbs up and down shows regularly) and apart from networks problems (PRIME EPG!) my experience has been excellent.

Should this unit die and not be repairable, I would buy another without a doubt.

Cheers,
Joseph

So you got a refund and are moaning about them not taking the units to the tip for you?  Don't you have rubbish collection where you live?
