Once you've got the hang of TiVo, you won't bother with live TV anymore. Just plug the aerial into the TiVo and forget the TV's tuner (as we have).

you will need the normal tv tuner though, if you want to record two shows, and watch a 3rd.

But of course the 'third show' will be something you recorded earlier ;) It does take a while to get out of the mindset of watching something "when it's on".

Lucky I checked my Season Pass manager last nite as all my manually setup recordings on Prime were gone. The only one I had problems resetting was Mythbusters on Thursday nite. It kept setting the wrong program. Sorted it by rebooting the TiVo

I emailed TiVo about the continued absence of Prime's listings from the Genie online EPG - got an almost immediate response to contact the NZ 0800 number; after talking to the person who answered, it was clear she knew nothing about the issue; she passed me onto someone else who then said they'd email the relevant people. Clearly, a highly efficient system they have running!

Anyway, I've just checked on Genie and Prime is now listed - has no logo but the programmes are now there. I find it that much easier to set up recordings online so it's great to have this in place.

Give them a bit of time, prime only got listed yesterday on the main EPG. I watched prime live for the first time in a long while yesterday, as I could see what was actually on.

More like "record 4 shows and watch a 5th" - my tinkering has got the better of me and I wasn't joking about a spaghetti-like mass of wiring behind the entertainment center - still I guess that means I can retain my Geek card

When the Tivo is connected I will have that, plus the sky box (non-MySky), plus the Freeview sat box (I can't get all the terrestrial Muxes) all connected. Tivo can record two (FV), Sky box is connected to DVD recorder, and sat box is connected to the ye olde VCR as well as the TV (hey, I had a spare cable and it was there.......) as well as the second input on the DVD recorder.

Now all I need is some time to actually watch TV.......

yes, time is the most valuable thing. I have heaps of stuff I just haven't had the time to watch.

Given their cheapness, Tivos should now be included in the pensioner switchover subsidy. That would be a nice poke in the eye for Igloo which has been shut out of the scheme. All the oldies would need are sympathetic neighbours willing to share their Wifi passwords...

Yes the tivo is really the perfect device for the elderly, apart from the fact that they will also need a broadband connection.

Cool, my grandma will be eligible for one of those. Hope it is not going to be a Hills one though as I see it is being administered by them. I have a satellite hills box, and it is regularly crashing, perhaps they have improved them since. Good to see the gov looking after the old people.

I bought one off of Trade Me, unopened, and when I plugged it in I discovered the harddrive had failed. However, after emailing Tivo about the situation and telling them everything they gave me an out of warranty replacement and I got my replacement Tivo within a week

It gets me thinking - tivo still records if the epg is updated once a month (once a week is probably better for epg freshness), so for people with no broadband they could update manually via mobile data hotspot? Wouldn't cost much (as long as they remember to turn off data afterwards)

Of course there is the "digitally distant" factor - but if nana is getting a visit once a week then someone else could be doing it for her.

Maybe a shortlived victory. My Prime EPG runs out midnight Friday with Saturday onwards just showing To be Advised.
