hi, I need to do some market research on photo prints. I have designed a frame (non digital) and need to gather some basic consumer information. Has anyone any idea where I could find this information?

What is the most popular size photo frame?
How many are sold a year?
Do people buy for presents for themselves?
Do people buy in quantity or single frames.
What times of year do people buy frames? Occasions?
Do people tend to buy online?

What prices do photo frames go for? Low, medium and high quality.
What are the main companies making photo frames.
Where do people buy photo frames?
Why do they buy photo frames? Presents? Personal use? etc… occasions?
What are the best photo frames, the most recognizable brand?
Have digital frames effected the photo frame market?

You need to define your interest. Sounds like you want to sell frames to consumer and you don't want to do the research yourself. You want answers from average people?

6x4 as they're cheapest, and the correct ratio for most sensors. Some little cameras do 4:3 ratio, a 6x4.5 would be better for those. Millions are sold each year. Not by me.

I buy frames 1-3 at a time, so they match. I buy online or in discount stores. For customers (I'm a pro photog) I use a custom framing place, but that's super expensive.

I don't like digital frames, have one that was a gift that we keep in a spare room and never turn on.

I'd guess 6" by 4" is the most popular print size, as an industry standard?

As for the numbers (market size, etc) I wonder if there's an association for photographer or photographic material suppliers that could have this kind of information.

Loose prints aren't done much by photographers, at least not wedding photographers. Portrait photographers want to sell big prints, framed. I think there is a market for cheap and midrange frames.

Sensor ratio is the big thing: DSLR is 3:2, which gives 6x4", 6x9" (not common), 8x12" (A4), 12x18, 20x30. Older popular sizes are 5x7, 6x8, 8x10, 10x14, but photos need to be cropped to fit those sizes.

Supporting both 3:2 and 4:3 aspect ratios is important. At least 80% of cameras are 4:3.

I'd guess 6x4" and 6x8" are the most popular sizes.
