Hi All

For an upcoming function, I want to have a system whereby attendees can take a picture of something on their phone, send it to an email address, and from there it is added to a slideshow playing on a laptop, with no human interaction.

The closest I can think of is to create a Gmail address, with associated Picasa account, and have the picasa album running a slideshow, but don't know how to get the pictures from the incoming emails into the picasa album automatically.

I also need to be able to start the album with a bunch of photos, and preferably videos too, and all the new images are added to this.

Can anybody suggest a solution that is free and reasonably low / no maintenance?

How well do you know the guests, something automated like that could get very embarrassing after a couple of hours and a few drinks.

But seriously it sounds like you want something like this,

and then have the projector use the google drive directory as the source,

Exactly what I was going to say reading through the OP. I think it is something I might have done after a few too many drinks...

Haha yes I know the people well enough, and hopefully the pictures do get a bit embarassing!

I can't rememebr off the top of my head if you can run a slideshow of files in Drive?

Have started playing with Flickr, as it has an email to photostream function, however I've realised that 'streaming the pictures and /or videos all night will chew through much more data than I will have readily available.

maybe using the above gmail > drive > auto download to a desktop folder > slideshow running from that folder?

at least this means each piece of media would only be downloaded once, but I've only just considered that the laptop would probably have to be tethered from my phone, and therefore don't want to smash my data allowance.

Back to the drawing board I think, from the start.

Basically we're having a function, and will be running a photobooth throughout the night, as well as a kind of quiz / treasure hunt where people will have to take pictures of things.

we will have access to a projector, but it's getting all the pics off the cameras / phones and onto the projector quickly with minimal interaction. The laptop running the slideshow does not have buletooth, and I think would be out of easy reach, so not really easy to just plug in a cable and move stuff onto it.

Any thoughts of how this could be done:
- for free
- easily
- using minimal / no data
- with minimal / no human interaction?
