DV output via Firewire

Our school uses an old eMac (PowerPC w/Tiger) with SimpleVideoOut, to output .dv files to a video mixer, via firewire.

As SimpleVideoOut hasn't had any further development since mid-2005, what options do I have to setup the same solution for a new iMac with Leopard??

With support like this... it is no wonder I will probably never own an Apple Mac.

1. Import DV files to iMovie (comes free with iMac)
2. In preferences select "play DV project video thriough to DV camera"
3. Compile your footage
4. Hit play. Video plays live to firewire.

This works with iMovie 6. The new iLife 08 I'm not sure about.

Bah humbug! That feature has been removed in iMovie (iLife 08).

I know where the Apple product forums are now.
From reading the forums and product summary, I need Final Cut Express.

Or you could buy an earlier version of iLife and replace iMovie from that.

If it was in iMovie 06 just download and load that version. Assuming the link is still there as an option for 08 users to use the previous version.
If you already had 06 when you install 08, it retains the older version of iMovie.

Hi there

I'm using IMovie08 and I don't need it because I'm running video playback thru my camcorder and works fine. You don't need to buy FinalCutPro that cost too much. Try to get something like Formac Studio interface that will help you for sure. I got one second hand for $100NZ but be aware that apple put cheep fireware things on they notebooks instead of good old Texas Instrument chip so you will maybe need PCI Express FW card for notebooks. I did need it anyway. If this doesn’t help don't buy Mac at all!
