I grabbed a SX700HS about a week ago from Harvey's. Canon is giving $50 back for this camera if purchased by a certain date.

Seems to be quite good at casual snaps, but haven't given it a really good run in various situations yet.

Note that it doesn't come with much in the box. No SD card or usb/hdmi cable supplied. It does have WiFi, so I can transfer the photos to the PC via that. Can also send photos to an android or iPhone, so that you can share them from your phone. No WP support though. The app also lets you shoot using your phone, great for group shots.

I ended up getting a second battery, as nothing worse than running out of juices when you are out and about.

I got my parents a Sony DSC-WX350 and am so far quite happy with it. It does pretty good video as well as decent photos.

Thanks GregV; I went to purchase one at Harveys on the 24th but after standing around for 30 minutes I gave up trying to catch the attention of a staff member
On Boxing Day the price was $52 more expensive (on sale) than the 24th

Dick Smith online have one they refer to as the SX700 HS on sale for $239, so I'll try to get that in store rather than online today and see how I go.

However after a good clean over the weekend, I no longer have the memory card issue on my Lumix so now the need to get a new camera is even less than it was

Picked up the Canon Powershot SX700 HS from Dick Smith for $239
Have submitted the claim form for $50 cash back, so now the waiting game.

Does anyone know any place that sells official replacement batteries for this - I want to have a couple spare.
I am going to get a couple OEM versions from somewhere with charger, but I also want some official ones (even knowing that they cost $100 or more)
