I always buy extended warranties on more expensive items for that reason... my last 2 laptops have blown and required repairs about 2 years in that would of otherwise meant throwing it out.
But in summing up buying from Auctions doesn't cover you in the CGA.... In this instance it would require me to trust that this seller wont get and leave NZ or leave trademe.. and if the camera brakes then I'm looking at a longer down time. Although I cant imagine canon camera's being fixed in NZ anyhow? Great feedback thanks guys.
Wouldn't it be handy to be able to place feedback on a seller even after the initial feedback.. say 6 months down the track when the product stops working..

This is a problem yes which I believe is being "fixed/looped into". if you use "buy now" then you are covered under the CGA for new goods but if you win an auction then you are not..

Perhaps so... I can imagine this causing more headaches than anything. At the end of the day an online auction site is an auction, not a retailer. Good luck with your camera purchase. Giving a Fire/flood/lightening "warrenty" is very strange for a company to give.
Just check out pricespy.co.nz regularly and wait for a good price to drop dude. Its what im doing.
Go with a reputable store and you will be ok for warranty issues, altho at worst case i guess your contents cover will cover you with a $100 excess or so right???
Also did you see yesterdays Harvey Norman Catalogue? They had the camera you wanted + two lenses!!! instead of one + bag + i think it was memory card for $2477, so you might be best to go get it now :) I mean only $100 more than PP, plus it'd be easier to get do warranty returns instead of shipping back to online companies

Try Pharmacy Express - I've bought loads of Canon gear from them. Also don't forget to try the old-fashioned camera shops - they won't usually match prices but they will often throw in a lot of extras which can be worth a lot.
