also when you buy certain things there are certain things to look for: eg for printers check the price of the cartridges ... for digital compact camera check the time it takes to take a shot :) (samsung have the worst shot taking time in general)

Yeah, but this particular Samsung model had such glowing reviews pretty much anywhere I checked, that I felt I had to buy it. Nah, the cards are 4 to 8GB - I didn't want to give Samsung the opportunity to tell me that 16GB or higher cards are not supported and that's what's causing the issues. I might still use them for a Canon FS100 that I have lying around.
can you give example of the "noise"? perhaps it's 'normal' for the model to have a slight noise ... the specs say "low noise" movie capture :)
if it says no noise movie capture it suggests zero noise ... but the fact that it says low noise means it expects you to hear some motor sound ... but it shouldn't be annoying you though ... compact digitals are not hollywood video cameras you know
but the fact they told you it's your SD card - shame on them! deserve a slap!
