listudio: Hi  Jansenniek5, congratulations! Sounds very romantic. If it is a less than two -hour wedding ceremony, I think I can do it for you for ‘free’ under one condition – if you allow me to have copyrights and ownership of your wedding photos. I may use the photos for my commercial photo website ( I am working on it at the moment). You will have your photos (more than 50 photos)  on DVD. If you are interested, pls  pm me, we can discuss more details. I have an art studio in Auckland city central. You can have some photos taken in my studio as well if you like. I may charge you a little $ for that. I am not doing this for everyone, I am quite interested in the location you choose for your wedding, and I love to take romantic photos.Laughing My photo blog is http://www.li-travel-photo.blogspot.co.nz/ & my website http://li-studio.co.nz/

Cheers!

Wow, sounds like a great offer! I've sent you an email to discuss this more privately.

To everyone else: thanks for the replies. I'll give some extra information so others can get interested to maybe. The ceremony will be very private, only the two of us and a celebrant. We will celebrate our wedding with friends and family back home. We've booked a backup location, should the weather be bad.
http://www.sea-escape.co.nz/ a house with sea view and a sort of porch were the ceremony can take place if it rains. But offcourse our priority is to hold the ceremony at the beach.

Because the ceremony is only with the two of us it won't take very long. I think no more than an hour so it won't take much time. Our budget, I have no idea what a reasonable price would be for our wishes.
We tend to spend more on our trip than on our marriage: memories of 4 weeks travelling  vs 1 day, easy choice for us.

Alright, lets write:

By the time I posted my offer, I knew my victory. I didn’t reply some posts, bcos I didn’t want to make a scene that I was hungry for money to death (I love $,Kissby the way). Its fun to see that some people seem still live in the stone age, they wanted to make their own territories by mouths while spoke like a turtle…while some need to go back to school to learn some basic laws of economic other than playing smart by teaching people what they should do.

I just offered an option, that’s all.

Hi

Who ever you choose, make sure you check out their portfolio. As their 'style' may not suit you.

All the best.

And an established professional offered other options, sounds like you're more of an enthusiast.

That sounds a constructive help.  its good for the couple having more options for their own benefits.  I really don’t mind if they choose someone else. Feeling offended by what I said? You take the right words and  bring out something good. Good on you!

Ok, to satisfy your curiosity I would tell you that I have been doing visual design and printing for years and I play with my camera some years too. I made heaps of $$ out of it which made me free from being a money slave and having time to do something I like. I am well familiar with the rules such as light, layout, color, theme, focus, meaning, purpose and so on..and I got good equipment now and I am capable to take the job. Although I still need to improve my skills, that’s part of what I am doing every day.

Ok, two problems here:
- listudio is offensive. That would rule him out as a wedding photographer for me, plus it might get him banned from geekzone.
- Professional photographers have customers sign a contract that includes assigning copyright to the photographer, along with a model release.

I was previously thinking this is a person who may have some idea and is volunteering their time. I had no confidence in the results, due to lack of experience, but I was hopeful. Now I had to say that he sounds like a poor choice.

And thats exactly what a professional was to start with....

Li's offer is extremely kind and looking at their portfolio etc, I would probably take them up on the offer myself, fine, their style may not measure up to what other people consider "professional" , but at the end of the day, as long as the OP has some decent shots of their special day, Im sure they'll be very happy.

For my wedding, we had an "enthusiast" photographer - he had been an enthusiast for years and had a decent little home studio etc but did not class himself as a professional but we were over the moon with the pics he took (without any processing etc - he knew I was a geek and happy to manipulate the images myself). He cost $300 - for that we got approx 100+ photos on 2 DVDs that he burnt at the reception for us (towards end of the night) and he was with us from 10am until 7/8pm.

Just because someone dosent have a "pro" tag on them, dont assume theyre not suitable for the job....  yes, its a special day, but Im sure things will go well...

They are not being offensive as such, but more frustrated Id say from the responses theyre getting from people in this thread. They have offered their service and people are slamming them for their lack of "experience".

Everyone has to start somewhere.

That said, can everyone take a chill pill now and have a nice long weekend :)

I seriously wouldn't let someone who doesn't have any photos of people on their "professional" website or their blog photograph a wedding. You'd think it was easy, but there are plenty of ways to fail. Even exposure can be tough with a white wedding dress, which tend to be very reflective. If you expose for that faces are dark. If you expose for faces the dress blows out. You have to have a plan - incidentally mine is positioning to reduce reflectivity, and to expose for the faces. I've seen bad side shadow, poles or trees sticking out of heads, there's so much that amateurs won't notice until later.

This is important: you need two witnesses for a wedding, to sign the marriage license. Pretty sure it's not optional.
